Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept payment through HSA accounts?
Yes, a health savings account (HSA), is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to taxpayers in the United States who are enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) through their employer. Account payments using HSA monies are accepted at Sunstone Natural Health.

Do you accept health insurance?
We currently do not accept health insurance; however, we will be more than happy to provide you with the diagnosis code necessary for you to submit a claim to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What do I need to bring to the initial visit?
Please bring all medications and/or vitamin and herbal supplements that you are currently taking. We also find it beneficial for patients to bring any medical records they may have in addition to past physicians’ names, addresses and phone numbers. If you filled out paperwork in advance, please bring it as well.

Why should I visit a Naturopathic Doctor when I can purchase herbs and vitamins at a retail store or online?
There are an overwhelming number of nutritional and herbal supplements available to purchase over the counter. While the supplements may be beneficial to your health, without proper education to determine the root of your illness or ailment, they can be extremely dangerous. For your safety, it is essential that a physician advise you. Naturopathic Doctors have a comprehensive understanding of nutritional biochemistry, botanical medicine, pharmacology, physiology, and the interactions between herbs and drug therapies. Without this specific knowledge, one cannot safely give advice or make recommendations on Natural Medicine.

How much training and education is required for a Naturopathic Doctor?
A Naturopathic Doctor is required to attend a minimum of 8 years of classroom and clinical education. After earning a 4 year undergraduate degree, naturopaths are required to attend a 4 year graduate level medical school and are educated in conventional medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, cardiology, neurology, radiology, obstetrics, gynecology, embryology, pediatrics, psychology, dermatology, immunology, gastroenterology, laboratory diagnosis, clinical and physical diagnosis. In addition to the standard medical curriculum, they are required to complete training in therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, constitutional hydrotherapy, physical medicine, counseling and philosophy. Naturopathic doctors receive more classroom hours than leading medical schools due to additional hours of natural therapies required. In licensed states, such as Arizona, Naturopathic Doctors must also pass a basic science board exam in second year and a rigorous biomedical science board exam after graduation.
