The Chiltern Mainline will be created in stages. Faster trains on the existing line between the West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London will start to run from 2011. A brand new line to Oxford is expected to launch in 2013.

Faster train on existing line

The first stage of work will result in journey times being cut by 20% along the length of the Chiltern Mainline between Birmingham and London.

New tracks, new junctions, new trains and new platforms will all come together to deliver faster trains the length of our route.

Journey improvements from Banbury

Commuters from Banbury will be able to reach the capital in less than an hour for the first time. A typical train will take just 53 minutes to reach London.

Journey improvements from Beaconsfield

London will become closer to Beaconsfield with commuters reaching London 22% faster than today.

Journey improvements from Bicester North

Trains from the existing Bicester North station will reach London in less than 45 minutes - plus a brand new station at Bicester Town.

  • Peak journeys: Up to 12 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 21%
  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 5 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 9%
  • More express trains to and from London.

Journey improvements from Birmingham

Trains will reach London from an expanded and upgraded Birmingham Moor Street in just 100 minutes - even less at peaks times. A new main line route for the Midlands!

  • Peak journeys: Up to 25 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 22%
  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 28 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 21%
  • More express trains to and from London - 2 new platforms

Journey improvements from Gerrards Cross

Both peak and off-peak journey times will be reduced by 14% with brand new trains designed for faster acceleration.

Journey improvements from Haddenham & Thame Parkway

Typical trains will reach London nearly a third faster, with a journey time to the capital of just 35 minutes. The perfect alternative to the M40.

  • Peak journeys: Up to 12 minutes faster to and from London- improved by 20%
  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 13 minutes faster to and from London- improved by 27%
  • More express trains to and from London.

Journey improvements from High Wycombe

London will become closer to High Wycombe, with commuters reaching London in just 25 minutes. That's 26% faster than today.

  • Peak journeys: Up to 9 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 26%
  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 10 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 31%
  • More express trains to and from London

Journey improvements from inner London stations

Dedicated brand new trains designed for fast acceleration will be introduced, built to the latest and highest standards.

Journey improvements from Leamington Spa

Leamington Spa will be just over an hour from the capital, with peak time trains getting to London in 67 minutes.

Journey improvements from Princes Risborough

Commuters will speed to London in just 32 minutes, down 22%.

  • Up to 9 minutes faster to and from London
  • New trains.

Journey improvements from Solihull

Solihull will gain its best-ever connections to the capital, with fast trains reaching London in less than an hour and a half.

  • Peak journeys: Up to 23 minutes faster to and from London
  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 25 minutes faster to and from London
  • More express trains to and from London

Journey improvements from Warwick Parkway

Warwick Parkway, already the ideal alternative to the M40, will gain fast trains to London taking just an hour and a quarter - over 20% faster than today.

  • Off-peak journeys: Up to 23 minutes faster to and from London - improved by 23%
  • More express trains to and from London

A brand new line to Oxford

In 2013 we are planning to open a new line to Oxford via Bicester Town. This second stage of work by Project Evergreen 3 includes opening a brand new station in north Oxford called Water Eaton Parkway, with direct links to the A34, A40 and Oxford city centre.
