Binary packages
Debian packages have been uploaded to the set of official unstable (sid) and testing (etch) Debian packages. If you are running stable or Ubuntu, you must first add some lines to /etc/apt/sources.list. SeeTor packages on Debian, which has the details.
FreeBSD: cd /usr/ports/security/tor && make install clean
OpenBSD: pkg_add tor or cd /usr/ports/net/tor && make && make install (prefer the first one to get directly a safe binary package)
