Rankin captures a taste of single malt whisky

By Matilda Battersby

Sepia tone snapshots by famous Scottish photographer Rankin, inspired by a famous Scottish whisky, have been published in a book which forms a “photographic essay” of the beautiful three-hundred-year-old estate responsible for Macallan Single Malt Whisky.

The 1,000 image series of the estate, which overlooks the river Spey and dates back to the 1700s, was taken on a Polaroid camera, which lends it an archaic and rustic edge in keeping with the whisky’s brand.

Rankin was commissioned to be the first to take part in a project called ‘The Macallan Masters of Photography’, and his work will be available in a special edition book called ‘Rankin: A Photographic Essay of the Macallan Estate.’

A Photographic Essay of The Macallan Estate (£40) is available to purchase from www.themacallan.com from May, 2010.

Yeah, single malt whiskey always reminds me of naked blondes on horesback. Is this really the best he can do?

These pictures are not very good. What is the purpose of the nude. It does not have any relation to whiskey at all. Is the person who calls them-self 'Rankin' having sexual relations with the nude?

Beautiful photos.. I assume the model, naked and blonde, is supposed to represent something. Though I'm not familiar with the taste of single malt whiskey, so I'm not sure what that is!
WTF???

Is this an anorexic, alcoholic whiskey drinker??? If not, WTF is this photo all about? Pure Malt Pish!

These are appallingly bad. Rankin, who is undeniably a great photographer in his field, has been asked to shoehorn the sponsor into his style of work, or worse still vice-versa and has managed to devalue both. These images have no merit, either artistically or as a promotional tool. Unbelievable as it sounds, Rankin, we are getting bored seeing your naked girlfriend (impressed as we are presumably supposed to be that she is indeed with you) draped across parts of the countryside in the name of whisky. Boring.

It is whisky not "whiskey"......the Irish make something they call whiskey, which of course is not real whisky but not a bad attempt. Is that nkaed quine frae Craigellachie ?
