"Designing Women" actress Dixie Carter, who used her charm and stately beauty in a host of roles on Broadway and television, has died. She was 70.
Publicist Steve Rohr, who represents Carter and her husband, actor Hal Holbrook, says Carter died Saturday morning.
A native of Tennessee, Carter was most famous for playing quick-witted Southerner Julia Sugarbaker for seven years on "Designing Women," the CBS sitcom that ran from 1986 to 1993.
She was nominated for an Emmy in 2007 for her seven-episode guest stint on the ABC hit "Desperate Housewives."
Carter's other credits include roles on the series "Family Law" and "Different Strokes."
I was saddened when I read this. She was really good as Julia Sugarbaker.

The regularly scheduled edition of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution could not compete at 9 p.m., with 4.72 million viewers (#3) and a 1.6/ 5 in the demo (#2).
Jamie Oliver was within 1 of tying Medium. I guarantee you ABC is much happier with how this show is doing than recent Friday 9pm occupants.

All three are up a bit, which tends to substantiate my supposition that Clash of the Titans opening the previous Friday took a bite out of each, particularly Spartacus.
