Today Nailsea is a thriving country town which nestles in beautiful North Somerset countryside, just minutes from both the Bristol Channel and the Mendip Hills.

In the 18th and 19th century Nailsea was a substantial producer of glass and gave its name to a particular type of coloured glass which has become highly sought after by collectors around the world. (There is a fine collection of Nailsea Glass on display at Clevedon Court – a National Trust Property about 3 miles from Nailsea).

The glass works eventually closed and for many years Nailsea became a typical rural Somerset village dependent on agriculture and cider making.

Over the last thirty years however, Nailsea has grown from a village into a small Town with a present population around 18,000. The charm of Nailsea is that whilst it has all the modern facilities families need and want it has still managed to retain its village atmosphere.

Nailsea benefits from a beautiful rural location yet is only eight miles from the city centre of Bristol. From Nailsea and Backwell railway station Bristol is only a ten minute train ride away and regular trains directly link Nailsea with London and the West Country. Communications are further improved as it lies only 3 miles away from the M5 Motorway and less than 10 miles away from Bristol International Airport
.

Nailsea has become a very desirable place to live and keeping pace with the needs of a growing population has placed many demands on the community. Its local Town Council has met this challenge by investing in sport and social activities and supporting local commerce and community events.
