The Honorable D. Michael Collins is Director of the Office of Diversity and Economic Opportunity (ODEO) for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Prior to becoming Director of the ODEO he was Deputy for Equal Opportunity, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower, Reserve Affairs, Installations and Environment, Washington, D.C. from May 1994 to June 1999. The Honorable D. Michael Collins was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Howard University in 1969. He served more than 21 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he was a consultant who specialized in the delivery of client-centered training programs in all facets of cultural and workforce diversity, working extensively in public school systems throughout Florida. His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Air Force Meritorious Service Medals, the Presidential Unit Citation, two Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, the Air Force Recognition Ribbon, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation. In July 1997, he received one of the NAACP’s highest awards, the Benjamin L. Hooks Distinguished Service Award.
