Prisons in Middlesex
Proposed new County Prison for Middlesex
At a meeting of the Middlesex magistrates a committee reported the result of their inquiries in reference to a site upon which to erect a new county prison. The result of advertising was that offers of 46 sites had been made, and of these the most desirable was considered to be one at Highbury Vale, between 12 and 13 acres in extent. The purchase of this at a cost not exceeding £12,250 was recommended by the committee, and after considerable discussion was agreed to. Considerable opposition is manifested to the proposition.
