Replacing opponents.

By Jason Appleton

So I have opponents lined up for Roger, Mojo and TJ.
It’s been over a week and still no paperwork has been turned in and I’m beyond frustrated having to babysit a group of people for simple paperwork.
After the chaos that was the last show, I’m not taking chances and I have found 3 replacement opponents that may turn out to be even better match ups anyway.
Hopefully, this week I’ll be able to announce everone.

The Big Show Gym

By Jason Appleton

Lacy and I walked through the future Big Show Gym with our equipment broker today.
I really can’t wait to get this place open and host our first amateur event there. So many of you are waiting to join the gym and it’s going to be nice to have a group of men and women being able to train in a nice environment together as we continue to build the MMA Big Show with the top up and comers in the region.

Fighters who train out of the Big Show Gym will get priority on MMA Big Show fight cards at Belterra Casino and be able to train with some of the best fighters in all weight classes in the region. It’s going to be THE place to train, fight and or just get fit in the region hands down. The gym wont be lead by ego or profiteering, just training and opportunity. My goal for the Big Show gym is to raise new talent in both skills, ability and promotional efforts. As the fighters I began with as amateurs rise up and into the next level of national stages like the UFC and Strikeforce, I want to be able to further build the next line of top talent…

I just have hobbies…

By Jason Appleton

After being abstinent for 7 years after a horrible relationship I learned a lot about myself and took interest in a large variety of things. It’s funny how you can tell someone has never been alone in their life because they have no interests or hobbies. Solitude is a guiding light many fear to open their eyes in front of. When I sit back and think about every little thing I dabble in, it’s kind of funny, though maybe a bit nerdy.

Let’s see, I’ve been self employed for the past 4 years, doing better each year. I’ve been an entrepreneur since I left High School. My first business was a web design business. What’s funny is, I was working as a computer repair consultant for a company and I traveled all over setting up networks and repairing computers and I had never even owned one myself. I was a kid though and while on the road I bought a Playstation One with the company credit card to play for a weekend of which I returned before I left that city. The company still didn’t like that and I ended up getting fired. So I financed a Gateway 2,000, bought an HTML source book and hit Geocities and taught myself HTML programming in a weekend and opened for web design business on Monday. Over 3 years I developed a reputation and client list that I ended up selling to an IT consulting firm just getting into web development. It was my 21st birthday and after the CEO turning down some high 5 figure deals due to moral deficiency (not porn, think about HQ Hardware becoming like the Hooters of Home Repair called Beaver Lumber) and I ended up leaving the company.

I am a gamer! I’m proud to admit it! I have every console, an Apple and PC Laptop and a custom gaming rig. I rarely get a chance to play anything until late at night when everyone is asleep but I still enjoy it.

I draw, I read and I am always trying to learn new things. I watch documentaries about anything and everything and am always looking into new business ideas. I’m opening a huge MMA & Fitness gym, I’m about to become a distributor for some Sexual Enhancement pills that work like crazy! I’m also teaching myself Objective-C programming while learning the Apple SDK and Interface Builder to create my own iPhone apps.

I watch a movie almost every night and own hundreds of DVD’s.

I do all my own web work. I do all my own graphic design work for the MMA Big Show. The website, posters, flyers, etc.

I dabble on Facebook and chit chat with strangers just to learn more about people and re-connect with friends from the past (Hey Dallas Gates! You were always a cool dude!)

I guess overall, I am who I am. I have a never say die attitude and am always pushing forward. 2010 stands to be an amazing year for the Big Show as I’m putting a live broadcast deal together now for the Feb 20th event I’m hoping I can pull off within the coming weeks.

Here is to hoping for an amazing 2010 year full of lots of small efforts that will come together in one big climax.

Been a while, this weekend is tense.

By Jason Appleton

So, many people know by now that the new Indiana Athletic Commission pulled my pro fights for Jan 9th. It’s really been a frustrating situation. After having run flawless shows at Belterra Casino for a year and a half and I get to deal with this madness. The show is moving forward as an amateur event and we have been adding ammy fights to fill out the card. Many of which are going to be really good fights. Often times I feel like the ammy fights are more exciting because ammys have nothing to lose so they really go at it. This weekend should be fun and I’m hoping the weather clears up so people come out and support our last 6 weeks worth of work.

Lacy and I have been doing very well! For Christmas I got her a Kitchen Aid Mixer…I know, it sounds funny but she told me a while back how her father got one for her mother years ago and her grandfather got one for her grandmother etc and that she really wanted one some day. So, in the name of tradition I got her one and she LOVES it. Shes been making all kind of dinners and deserts from SCRATCH! Shes been doing an amazing job. I’m very proud of her.

We finally got the lease from the legal dept of Eastgate Mall and are preparing to put everything we need on order to begin build out of the new Big Show Gym!!!
It’s going to be really nice having a place to work outside of the house and away from the kids etc. This gym is going to be my new baby! Guys and gals who train out of the Big Show Gym will have access to the best trainers and equipment and be priority for Big Show fight cards. We will be having a slew of various MMA and fitness related events, merchandise, drinks and suppliments etc. It should be really nice.

I also booked Dave Hess to fight UFC Vet Jake Obrien on Feb 20th as well as Roger Bowling and Mojo Horne. It’s going to be a STACKED fight card. Not to mention TJ Ball will be making his pro debut! I can’t wait!

2009 ended in a flurry of craziness and with the new commission in place for Indiana our New Dawn has become a New Blackout, but I’m sure all will work out in the end with many, many lessons learned.

My son Tyler Jacob…

By Jason Appleton

In about 30 minutes, I should be talking to my son for the first time, ever…he’s 10 years old.
10 years ago I dated a girl during a very low point in my life. This was before my 7 year abstinence and partial cause for it. She got pregnant but I didn’t know until a year later. Making a long story short, she was preparing to marry someone who wanted to adopt the son I didn’t know I had until that point and her family wanted me to stay out of the picture as well. Without getting into details, they moved to Arizona and I let them go.

Now, 10 years later and my sons mother reached out to me on Facebook. After all of the hell I’ve been dealing with in regards to Lacy and her moving the last bit of her stuff out this morning, feeling like not only was my birthday ruined but now Christmas as well, and the greatest gift I could have ever imagined getting pops up out of nowhere. My son…

He’s beautiful! I know, not very manly, but he’s such a great looking young man and apparently he plays several instruments, sings and is a great boy to his mother! (I’m not sure he’s really mine after hearing all that!) haha I’M KIDDING!

So, in the midst of so much drama and frustration, I’m hoping to enjoy the conversation with the person who has always been in my heart and mind but not my life. The boy whom I always hoped would some day see me on television and call me. The boy who has filled many of my nights with dreams of wonder and days with thoughts of hope, and I will be talking to him very soon. I can’t believe it’s happening.

Ladies and Gentleman, I introduce you all to my son, Tyler Jacob.

May be buying a TV station.

By Jason Appleton

So, Ron Sparks and Gary Goodridge are officially signed to fight Jan 9th and paperwork has been sent off to the Athletic Commission. I recently had a meeting with Fox 19 about some things and that went very well. Hopefully next week we will have more concrete things ironed out and be able to make some announcements. It’s been a hard up and down road with regards to dealing with television. This past year I’ve spent on avererage of $15,000 PER EVENT, just for television production. That’s $120,000 just this year to rack up content of events that currently aren’t being used to their full potential. That’s $120,000 I could have saved and used for other things. It’s amazing how it all adds up. Well, this year is all about LIVE television. Sponsors dont give a shit about anything other than live broadcasts so thats our goal.

I just got 3 more dates from Belterra I need to check out of which will be posted on the Big Show site. Feb, April and May. Instead of doing a year in advance and getting caught up with holidays and crappy dates we can’t change, we are going to focus on 3 at a time.

One of the best ways to broadcast nationally, LIVE, on television is to own the channel. So, my partner and I are working out some things where we may be able to land our own DirecTV station and will be filling it up with music videos, indie movies, mixed martial arts and other content with a focus on LIVE broadcasts. We are working some things out so we’ll see how the next few weeks go. I got word that InDemand is on board to carry my monthly On Demand PPV’s and we are still waiting on word from several other platforms.

I really think 2010 is going to be a banner year for the MMA Big Show and Big Show Entertainment as a whole. Now that I’m single, I have so much more time to focus on work and building my empire. I’m basically just picking up where I left off. Training to fight, building an empire and enjoying life a bit. Nothing beats the thrill of success except the love of a good woman. At least I’ve enjoyed some success and 2010 is going to be the year of building.

Oh, I’m also looking for a squad of dancers to become the MMA Big Show Dance Team. Dancing in the cage, throwing out shirts, dancing around the cage for fans etc. Just another element of fun for the shows. Anyone interested should add me by name on Facebook and send me a message. I’d like to get something together for the Jan 9th show. Should be fun.

LIVE TV is the goal!

By Jason Appleton

I may have a meeting scheduled Thursday with Fox 19 about doing live event broadcasts. Sounds promising.

I also have an offer from a group with a new national satelite broadcasting capability which will come at a cost but could easily be sponsored on a monthly basis. It will get my shows aired 8-15 times per month in front of a national audience and every bar in the country with DirecTV.

Finally, I’m talking to execs at various CW stations in the region about doing live broadcasts as well.

Things are looking promising so we’ll see. IF any potential sponsors out there are reading this, email me ASAP to be in the loop of what is going on. I’m planning this all out for Jan 9th so I’ll need to act fast.

Thanks.
