Eagles Welcome Back Officer Parrish

April 28, 2010 | Last Updated: 4/28/10 3:28 PM ET | Comments (0)

The Sarge is back in town.

The Eagles announced that they have agreed to terms with punter Ken Parrish on a three-year deal.

The 6-1, 210-pound Parrish returns to the Eagles after spending training camp with the team last season. He was picked up by the New York Jets shortly after being released by Philadelphia, but did not make the team.

Originally a rookie free agent signing of the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, Parrish was a two-time first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection at East Stroudsburg University, where he averaged 40.7 yards per punt in his four-year career.

A lifelong Eagles fan, Parrish used to come up with his family to sit in the bleachers and watch the team practice at Lehigh University during training camp. Last year, he got to practice in front of his family wearing the midnight green uniform. It's a much different uniform than the one he wore before joining the Eagles in 2009. He was a police officer in the Stroud Area (Pa.) Regional Police Department and remains listed on the department's official website.

Parrish put his police career on hold to give the NFL one last try. He moved to Modesto, Ca. before his first run with the Eagles to train and perfect his punting, placekicking and holding. The Eagles have two punters already on the roster with incumbent Sav Rocca and Durant Brooks, but only one kicker in David Akers.

Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder called Parrish "Sarge" because of his police background.
