O Hai Thar -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, January 24th, 2010

As you may have guessed already, things around here haven't exactly been going as planned lately. Constant DDoS'es from the skiddie chan and excessively slow progress on the new imageboard software that was being developed have forced me to drastically alter my plans.

888chan is currently back as a read-only archive. It will not come back as an active chan until such a time as it can be fully supported financially as well as properly protected from DDoS attacks. The best defense is a strong offense IMO.

For the time being, full effort will be put into Project VIBE/ (pronounced Vibe-Slash), at http://vibeslashnet.wordpress.com

I've made a new board for Project Greenwave raids. I've also designated a new section on the menubar for Project-level raids, that is, a raid that includes several smaller-scale site or personal raids.

Cheers.

New Chemistry Wildcard Discussion -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, June 21st, 2009 - 9:57 AM

The past couple weeks have been hell on wheels to say the least, but we've managed to keep things relatively stable given the onslaught we've suffered.

If you like what we're doing with 888chan, and want to see us continue to offer an awesome imageboard experience, please donate to support us. Server costs are expensive, and we're planning on upgrading to a new server within the next few months, so we need all the help we can get! Even a contribution of $10 or $20 can go a long way to ensuring that 888chan remains a fun and stable community. Donate today!

We seem to have reached a plateau content-wise. We've delivered on all the good board ideas we've received, and you the users seem to be happy overall with our selection of boards. Given that, there will be no new trial board for this week, besides the new Wildcard Discussion, which will be Chemistry. Other changes are as follows:

• /scx/ - Scripts and Exploits renamed to Scripts, Coding, and Exploits
Photography is a successful Trial board and has been moved to the Image section.

New Trial Boards and #rage Board -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, June 7th, 2009 - 10:30 PM

Changes to 888chan are as follows:
• Since /i/ is moving a lot faster lately, I increased threads per page to 15.
Advice and Requests is a successful Trial board and has been moved to Discussion.
• New Trial Photography imageboard.
• The new topic of the Wildcard board is Travel
. • I'd like you all to give a warm welcome to the #rage community at irc.anondox.com as we open up the /rage/ imageboard here on 888chan.

New /isc/ Local Board -- Posted by r3x on Monday, June 1st, 2009 - 11:55 PM

I'd like to welcome the Scandinavian Anons to 888chan as we open up the new isc/ - Scandinavian Insurgency imageboard, complete with a custom Scandinavia css stylesheet designed by the /isc/ Anons.

Cheers.

Weekly Update -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, May 31st, 2009 - 11:00 PM

I've added two new trial imageboards:

Advice and Requests - Ask Anons for advice and sauce.
Wildcard - Topic of the Week board. Each week a different topic is picked for discussion. If the topic generates enough interest, it may become a new board.

Other board changes are as follows:

• Meta Category merged into Home
/888/ - 888chan + /r/ renamed to /888/ - 888chan.
/efg/ - Internet Superheroes renamed to /efg/ - Epic Fail Guys.

Scripts and Exploits moved from Trial to Raids.
Television and Movies moved from Trial to Discussion.

Three Trial Imageboards, New Boards Index on Frontpage, and Moar! -- Posted by r3x on Monday, May 25th, 2009 - 12:14 AM

I've added three new trial imageboards

/men/ - Sexy Beautiful Men - A board for both gay and straight male porn
/scx/ - Scripts and Exploits - Self explanatory.
/tvm/ - Television and Movies - I split this off from the /m/ - Audio/Video Media board, which is now /m/ - Music, btw.

Other board changes are as follows:

• New Meta Category
/888/ - 888chan + /r/ moved from Special to Meta.
/ch/ - *chan Discussion moved from Trial to Meta.
/an/ - Anarchism moved from Trial to Meta.
/csIII/ - Geek Stuff moved from Academic to Discussion and renamed to Computers and Tech.
/art/ - Art and Graphic Design moved from Academic to Image

I took the menubar off the frontpage, added a new boards index, and changed the frontpage theme to Green Dream.

Three New Imageboards and Other Changes -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, May 17th, 2009 - 7:05 PM

Three New imageboards have been added to 888chan this weekend.

- /chi/ - Chifags - A local board for Chicago, Illinois
- Anarchism - A board for the discussion of the philosophy of Anarchism.
- *chan Discussion - Something 24chan.org used to have was a *chan discussion board, where other *chan imageboards could be discussed openly. I've missed this ever since 24chan deleted all their boards, so I'm putting one up here at 888chan.

I've reorganized the menubar, take a look.

Trial Boards have been moved into their respective sections.

/phi/ - Philosophy and Intellectual has been renamed to Philosophy.

Artwork and Oekaki has been renamed to Art and Graphic Design.

50,000 FAIL GET -- Posted by r3x on Monday, May 11th, 2009 - 7:14 PM
New IRC Network -- Posted by r3x on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 - 10:45 PM

For the record, AnonNET can kiss my ass.

#888chan has moved to irc.theinternetz.org. Pack your bags, we're moving.

Minor Board Reorganization -- Posted by r3x on Monday, May 4th, 2009 - 9:16 PM

I reorganized the menubar for more logical navigation. Changes are as follows:

- Media section renamed to Image
- /a/ - Anime and Manga moved from Discussion to Image section
- /m/ - Media renamed to Audio/Video Media and moved from Image to Discussion section.

New Artwork and Oekaki and Getting High Imageboards! -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 - 3:38 AM

I'm bringing you all sorts of new toys to play with this week.

- Artwork and Oekaki - A board with a no-shit embedded drawing java applet for you to draw and upload your own works of art straight to the board. This board will fall under Media. All banners for this board will be 400 x 400 and hand-drawn using the Oekaki applet.
- Getting High - Finally a board for all you stoners out there. I know you Bayfags love you some good weed.

Previous trial boards have been shuffled into their appropriate locations.

Other than that, I've made some changes to the moderation team. Hop into #888chan and check it out.

New Cuddledome and You Fail It Imageboards! -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, April 19th, 2009 - 2:52 PM

First off, I'm trialing two new imageboards this week:

- Cuddledome - For Caturday threads and all manner of cuteness. Caution, the sugar content of this board may give you DIABEETUS.
- You Fail It - No winning allowed. Only depictions of failure will escape the banhammer.

Discussion rules apply for both. We need 3 new banner images for each board. Please submit them in /888/.

In other news, users can now link to specific posts in a thread by hovering over "No."

You may have noticed our new bots, Anastasia and Fusionballs, in #888chan. When a new post is submitted, they will announce the post in #888chan for other users to see. Lurking in #888chan will now definitely improve your imageboard posting experience.

Cheers.

New Operation Baylout Board -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, April 18th, 2009 - 11:42 AM

I've added a new imageboard for Operation Baylout. GO GO ANONS!

Weekly Update -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, April 12th, 2009 - 6:26 PM

Trial boards have been shuffled into their appropriate locations. /t/ - Raid Tools has been rebranded as Raid Tools and Trolling Techniques, for anons to discuss methods and styles of trolling, etc.

Weekly Update -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 - 4:01 PM

At this time I would like to unveil the new trial boards:

/hell/ - Hell - All the porn and fucked up shit that cannot be unseen. Guro, scat, shock, and a place for furfags to yiff in hell without fagging up the rest of 888chan. Porn board rules apply.
/pw/ - Paranormal Wasteland - Everything that sets the mind on edge and eats away at the very soul. Alien abductions, urban decay, and nuclear holocaust, a land haunted by specters and demons. A post apocalyptic setting that violates the psyche by every means possible. This board goes by Discussion board rules.

/hent/ has been moved back to /h/.

I've also added the Hell and Wasteland css styles as default themes for their respective boards.

Because we went a week without any new trial boards, the trial board that gets the most activity will be moved out of trial status on Sunday evening to make way for another new board.

Weekly Update -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, March 29th, 2009 - 12:45 PM

I've made the following changes to 888chan's boards and layout:

- Renamed /geek/ - Geek Stuff to /csIII/ - Geek Stuff
- Renamed /wep/ - Weapons to /cb/ - Combat
- Moved /csIII/ and /cb/ out of Trial status
- Merged /r/ - Requests into /888/ - Site Discussion and Board Requests
- Renamed /888/ - Site Discussion and Board Requests to Site Discussion and Requests
- Moved /z103/ under the Z103 section on the menubar
- Renamed /h/ to /hent/ - Hentai
- Renamed /m/ - Music to Media, for discussion of Television, Movies, and Music.

I haven't added any new trial boards yet, because debate still rages over what kind of board the 888chan community wants. Join the discussion here.

In addition, should we set aside a board just for furfags? Discuss here.

New /geek/ - Geek Stuff imageboard! -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 - 3:25 PM

I'm taking one of the suggestions from this thread and trying it out. /geek/ - Geek Stuff is for "talk about programming, computers, how we enjoy our hands, and other geeky stuff." Not exactly sure what is meant by "how we enjoy our hands," but then again maybe I know all too well. ~_^

Two new imageboards! -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 - 5:01 PM

Gentlemen, I give you a new /wep/ - Weapons board as well as a new local board, /iuk/ - United Kingdom Insurgency.

Trial boards have been moved to their appropriate sections on the menubar.

New /h/ - Hentai imageboard! -- Posted by r3x on Friday, March 13th, 2009 - 12:13 AM

Check it out, new Hentai board for you pr0n junkies out there.

I also moved Requests under the General section and Anime and Manga under the Media section on the menubar.

BTW, in case you haven't noticed it yet, you can find all the Decentralized Chanology Cells in the world under the Local heading on the menubar. If yours is missing or you notice a new one pop up, let us know in Site Discussion.

New /gif/ - Animated GIF -- Posted by r3x on Monday, March 9th, 2009 - 12:13 AM

Gentlemen, I give you a board for Animated GIFs. It's like a truck you can just dump something on.

/iso/ - Southern Insurgency Board Now Live! -- Posted by walkingphoenix on Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 - 8:23 PM

The long-awaited and much-discussed Southern Insurgency imageboard is now live, here on 888chan, ready to serve the posting and IRL Trolling needs of the Southern United States, especially Georgia and Tennessee.

The South shall rise again.

/m/ - Music -- Posted by walkingphoenix on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 - 11:41 PM

I've added a new dedicated Music board and reorganized the top navbar a bit. Cheers.

DDOS -- Posted by walkingphoenix on Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 - 10:33 PM

Flipping The Bird

That's pretty much all I have to say about that.

Two New Imageboards -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 - 7:21 PM

I've set up two new imageboards.

/jb/ - Jailbait - Porn board. FYI, Jailbait != CP! Learn the fucking difference. If it is obviously CP, we will delete the post and perma b& the poster.

/t/ - Raid Tools - Tools and techniques for raids. Nazi tech, cool shit.

Lastly, I'd like to make a /r/equest for 3 new banners for the /np/ - News and Politics board. Right now it just has the generic banners. Banners must be 400 x 400 and SFW, and may be submitted in this thread.

Frontpage Redesign and new /icw/ - Clearwater Board -- Posted by r3x on Monday, February 16th, 2009 - 2:57 PM

As you can see, I've redesigned the frontpage, opting for a much more minimal layout. Links to imageboards can be found at the top of the page.

In other news, the Clearwater imageboard is now open for business.

Wakaba Firefox Extension -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 - 10:21 PM

Gentlemen,

The Wakaba Firefox Extension for 888chan is now available. Simply download and install it as a Firefox Addon, and you will see the many new features that are available as part of the imageboard's interface:

  • Thread Expansion
  • Post Expansion
  • Inline Image Expansion
  • Quick Reply
  • Thread Hiding
  • Quick Sage
  • Thread Navigation
  • Discussion Map

Download it here.

/net/ Merged With /efg/, 2 Boards Moved Out of Trial Status -- Posted by r3x on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009 - 11:53 AM

I've merged /net/ into /efg/ and renamed /efg/ to IRL Trolling and Hacktivism, to better suit the new class of raiding and Internet culture that I'm aiming to facilitate.

I've also shuffled trial boards into their respective categories.

r9k Changes and Two New Imageboards -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, January 7th, 2009 - 9:41 PM

First off, r9k has been fixed so that it'll only cache a post if the post goes through successfully.

In addition, r9k has been disabled on all Local Raid Boards as well as all Image Boards.

I've split up the General Interest section into Discussion Boards and Image Boards, the only difference being that r9k is disabled on Image Boards.

In other news, I've opened up two new Trial Boards, /bdsm/ - Bondage Dominance and Sadomasochism, and /f/ - Food. /a/ - Animu and Mango has been renamed to Anime and Manga (because only Weeaboos call it "Animu" FFS), and both /a/ and /g/ - Games have been moved out of trial status into the Image Boards section.

Lastly, CSS themes have been fixed so that you can select and keep a theme when viewing threads on any given imageboard.

r9k disabled on local boards -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 - 10:10 PM

I've disabled r9k on local imageboards. Robot 9000 rules will remain for raid boards and some general interest boards.

Well that was fun, wasn't it Gents? -- Posted by r3x on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 - 10:25 AM

Gentlemen, I've brought back 888chan's /i/ board. 888chan is no longer linking to 711chan /i/.

For those of you wondering why I went ahead and tried linking, 1) I did it for the lulz, and 2) To prove that a shared /i/ board can never fucking work.

/i/ is pretty much going the way of IRL Trolling, that is, multi-layered and decentralized. Each *chan community has to support its own /i/, although the /i/nsurgency as a whole can participate in the same raids across multiple *chans.

So, here ya go, Gents. Enjoy. /i/ - Internet 8 Machine

/efg/ - Epic Fail Guys will remain as a board for IRL Trolling and Hacktivism raids.

888chan TV is no more, watch LOLWUT TV -- Posted by r3x on Thursday, January 1st, 2009 - 11:46 PM

Gentlemen, I've decided to lay 888chan TV down to rest permanently. It's too much work to download/upload vids and keep it running when the folks over at LOLWUT TV are doing a great job with their own Mogulus stream, so I've taken down the /8tv/ board and the TV page and embedded LOLWUT TV into the IRC page.

Visit their Wiki to make TV Requests.

New music board /z103/ - Z103 CACAW! and /i/ changes -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, December 31th, 2008 - 3:02 AM

888chan now has a dedicated music themed imageboard, /z103/ - CACAW! Use the board to talk about what music you like, maybe they'll play some shit if they get enough /r/equests. Listen to their stream at http://z103.cacaw.net/.

In other news, 888chan.org/i/ now redirects to http://711chan.org/i/, as a shared /i/ board. I've converted 888chan's /i/ board to /efg/ - Epic Fail Guys, for IRL Trolling and Hacktivism related raids such as Project Chanology, and Net Neutrality. However, keep Project Chanology/Net Neutrality related post in the designated boards. /efg/ is for new IRL Trolling/Hacktivism projects.

LISTEN UP FAGGOTS. DO NOT POST ABOUT SCIENTOLOGY OR CHANOLOGY ON 711CHAN'S /i/ BOARD. THEY WILL B& YOU, AND MIGHT EVEN DOX YOUR IP. IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT SCIENTOLOGY OR CHANOLOGY, GO TO /xenu/.

Cheers.

Pool's Open -- Posted by r3x on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 - 9:07 AM

Thanks go out to da5id for helping me mitigate the DDoS and get 888chan back up.

New /iny/ - New York Insurgency imageboard! -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, December 27th, 2008 - 10:17 PM

Gentlemen,

The New York /i/nsurgents now have their very own imageboard here at 888chan, /iny/ - New York Insurgency.

Cheers!

Merry X-Mas! New /g/ - Games and /8tv/ - 888chan TV Boards! -- Posted by r3x on Thursday, December 25th, 2008 - 7:40 AM

Merry Christmas, 888chan! Now open your presents:

Christmas PresentChristmas Present

A new /g/ - Games board for all video game, board game, tabletop game, roleplaying game, any game related discussion, and /8tv/ for 888chan TV /r/equests and discussion.

As you may have noticed, I've simplified the layout of the frontpage, split the 888chan TV and Java Chat Client into separate pages, and set the Trollshido style as the default for all Special and General Interest imageboards. I've also designated a section on the navbar for Trial boards, and have placed /a/ and /g/ in Trial status. FYI if activity on /a/ doesn't pick up, I may consider trimming it.

For those who want to keep the same theme while viewing threads, I'm working on that problem, and hope to not only fix that, but to give you many more toys to play with. Stay tuned.

Epic Fail Guys

I said last week I'd tell more about the Epic Fail Guys. I've added a page to the wiki explaining just what the Epic Fail Guys are all about.

http://www.epicfailguys.org/wiki/index.php?title=Epic_Fail_Guys

Two new imageboards and Epic Fail Guys homepage -- Posted by r3x on Monday, December 15th, 2008 - 12:25 PM

I've set up two new imageboards, /r/ - Requests, and /np/ - News and Politics. I'm sure they'll both get lots of traffic.

The Epic Fail Guys now have a homepage at http://www.epicfailguys.org. The wiki has been moved to http://www.epicfailguys.org/wiki, and I've added a blog as well at http://www.epicfailguys.org/blog.

In celebration of launching the Epic Fail Guys, homepage, I've also made a Trollshido stylesheet for 888chan, featured here on the frontpage.

More to come (pun) on the Epic Fail Guys.

/gd/ Changes -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 - 12:13 PM

The layout of the imageboards hadn't been working as I intended, so I've made a few changes. The /gd/ board has been removed, and two new boards have been added, /888/ - Site Discussion and Consensus, and /phi/ - Philosophical and Intellectual Discussion. Also, the "robo" feature has been disabled on all boards.

I will also be moderating /td/ more strictly for cancerous posts, allowing for some drama. What this means overall is that hopefully the amount and quality of content in /td/ will improve, since it is now the only main board.

GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD! -- Posted by r3x on Monday, December 1st, 2008 - 1:32 AM

I have transitioned the former 8 Ball Wiki into the new Epic Fail Guys Wiki, focusing solely on IRL Raids such as Project Chanology and Net Neutrality. The thing is, we need some ideas for lulzy raids. Chanology and Neutrality are good raids, and serve their purpose, but we need to bring back those people who are looking for more lulz and less serious business in their IRL raids.

On a somewhat related note, I have been in talks with the /i/nsurgents about the possibility of a shared /i/ board between 420, 711, and 888, hosted and moderated by 420chan, in order to pool personnel resources for future /i/ raids. As you might imagine, 420 won't be at all friendly to IRL raids such as Chanology, Net Neutrality, or whatever else we might happen to come up with. Of course the latter two already have their own boards here, but there would be no room for new IRL raid ideas on the shared /i/.

I'm wondering what you all think of this idea. Should we go with a shared /i/, or keep 888chan's /i/ separate?

Again, the only real difference would be that the shared /i/ wouldn't support IRL Raid ideas.

If we do go with the shared /i/, then what would you think about setting up a board specifically for IRL raids?

Join the discusssion and post your thoughts here, even if you think they might be dumb. Tell me what you really think. You are Anonymous, after all.

As an aside, some of you may be wondering what the deal is regarding adding any new boards in the near future. As far as that goes, I'm not looking at adding any new boards for the time being unless I see the demand for them, either in the form of /r/equests for a certain type of board or a lot of threads with a certain type of content.

As far as site suggestions and feedback goes, I would add another board for that, but /gd/ seems to serve well enough for that, and needs the traffic as it is.

Cheers.

New Dedicated /net/ - Net Neutrality Raid Board! -- Posted by r3x on Monday, November 17th, 2008 - 10:51 PM

Some of you have been clamoring for a dedicated raid board for Net Neutrality. Your wish is my command.

*POOF*

/net/ - Net Neutrality

Explaining the Vision for 888chan -- Posted by r3x on Monday, November 17th, 2008 - 12:36 AM

As 888chan grows and adds more imageboards and users, it has become necessary for me to clarify my vision in regards to the overall functionality of this website, especially in regards to r9k bans, the roles of /gd/ and /td/, and where users come into play in terms of helping to moderate the website.

My basic idea with 888chan is to design a system that:
1) is easy to moderate,
2) can survive its complete success, i.e., that a huge influx of new users won't adversely affect the quality of the community or website, and
3) gives users a reason to donate to the site without adversely affecting the chemistry of the community, i.e., without creating a privileged class or designating VIP boards where only donors can post, etc.

Why r9k on (almost) every board?

Many of you have already noticed, either the easy way or the hard way, that many of the boards have r9k rules enabled. Currently the only boards where r9k isn't enabled are /td/, /p/, and /w/.

The concept is fairly simple: by enforcing robot bans based on previous content, users will be forced to lurk moar, think, be creative, and post original content. Forced memes, copypasta, and flooding are also discouraged in this way.

In addition, the type of users who would want to post immediately without lurking moar will probably learn about r9k the hard way. Either these users will lurk moar, read the Rules and FAQ, and actually understand how the site works, or they will get bored/frustrated and leave. However, my hope is that the overall quality of the community will entice new users to want to stay and lurk moar.

More intelligent users will lurk moar in the first place and understand how to post a completely original thought to begin with. In this way I hope to attract more intelligent users to the community without it suffering from the common newfag cancer problem that many imageboards experience (except in /td/, which is essentially meant to be unmoderated and filled with aids, cancer, drama, faggotry, and fail.)

Donating for r9k exemptions

In addition, starting today, those who donate to 888chan can now have their IP's placed on the r9k exemption whitelist. These r9k exemptions can be purchased for $1 per month or $10 per year, by licking the ling and donating:

When you donate, please include the IP you wish to be whitelisted in the optional email message. In addition, please state whether your IP is static or dynamic.

Again, the concept is simple: users who are willing to donate to 888chan and see it continue to survive are more likely to post creative and original content in the first place.

Users who are unable or choose not to donate can still post. The only price they have to pay is the time and effort it takes to compose a complete thought, which is really the only way to be certain your comment is original in the sense of never having been posted before on 888chan.

Posts such as "^ this" or "Agreed" or "Pic Related" will probably cause the poster to be b& by r9k. However, if the user were to phrase the post as follows: "I agree with >>12345 for the following reasons, etc.", he or she will have no problems with r9k at all.

Clarifying /gd/ and /td/

At this time I would also like to simplify the guidelines for posting in /gd/ and clarify the differences between /gd/ and /td/.

/td/ is essentially the anti-/b/. I take it for granted that /td/ will contain aids, cancer, drama, faggotry, fail posting, copypasta, old or forced memes, etc., because the intent is for it to be unmoderated. In this way such an ocean of piss and jenkem will be created that no one would want a good thread to go there.

Conversely, it'll be the perfect place for shitty threads to go, and will help keep the faggotry contained in one place. Paradoxically, /td/ will probably be the favorite and most used board on 888chan, much like the Thunderdome on WWP.

/gd/ on the other hand is essentially meant to be an off-topic random-esque board, but without any inter-site or namefag drama, copypasta, old or forced memes. You are strongly encouraged to post complete, original thoughts in /gd/ so as to avoid the r9k ban. If your post looks vapid, meaningless, retarded, or cancerous, you might be b&. Otherwise, anything goes. The rules page has been updated accordingly.

As for the threads themselves, it's ultimately up to the users whether a shitty thread falls into the Sarlac pit known as the Dome. "dome" goes in the email field. You the users have the power to make 888chan win or fail.

tl;dr

888chan is (hopefully) the cure for the common *chan.

Now of course, I could just be a complete moron about all of this, so please tell me what you think about my ideas here: http://888chan.org/gd/res/12013.html

inb4: STFU, DIAF r3x, kill yourself, what is this faggotry, bawww, etc.

Four New Imageboards! -- Posted by r3x on Monday, November 3rd, 2008 - 5:45 PM

888chan has opened four new imageboards tonight. I'll give you the rundown.

First, introducing a new General Interest imageboard, /sff/ - Science Fiction and Fantasy. This board features the new Cloud City stylesheet. R888-Y bans are enabled, dome and robo thresholds are 3 posts and 20%.

Next up a local imageboard for the Deutschfags, /ide/ - German Insurgency, featuring the new Germany stylesheet.

Next we have /ire/ - Irish Insurgency, featuring the new Ireland stylesheet.

Last but certainly not least I present to you /isf/ - San Francisco Insurgency, featuring the new Rainbow stylesheet.

Local Imageboards for Local Cells -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 - 10:05 AM

With the opening of the Las Vegas Insurgency imageboard, 888chan is now offering local imageboards to all local Anon cells that want one. Local cells can use their imageboard to plan and organize events or raids, or to just have fun, all compeletely anonymously and hopefully without the drama that goes with every Anon having a consistent nickname on a message board.

The conditions for having and keeping a local imageboard are as follows:

  • The board must be moderated by a member of that local cell. The moderator must necessarily be a tripfag. However, he or she will simply be a janitor; moderating will not be a position of leadership. Abuse of modship, such as giving out IP's, editing/deleting posts for no reason, will not be tolerated.
  • The board must be active. Use it or lose it.
  • Members of that local cell can help decide the look and feel of their board by designing custom stylesheets and submitting banners, as in /td/.
  • IRL raids/events do not have to be limited to Chanology.

So, if your local cell wants an imageboard, here's what you need to do:

  1. Have a vote among your hivemind and pick a mod you can trust (probably someone who mods your local board). Have them email me at rex(dot)lawlson(at)gmail(dot)com for further details.
  2. Make a custom stylesheet for the imageboard. You can do this easily by saving this page as "Web page, complete" in Firefox, and editing a stylesheet accordingly. Make sure the stylesheet works on the 888chan frontpage as well.
  3. Make three 400 x 400 banner images that best represent your local cell. Look at the banners in /td/ or /i/ for ideas.
  4. ????
  5. PROFIT!

For the stylesheet and banners, I can work with local cells to help produce the look and feel that you want for your imageboard.

/ilv/ - Las Vegas Insurgency -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 - 10:00 AM

The local imageboard for the Las Vegas Insurgency is now live with the new Las Vegas theme, at /ilv/. Be sure to give the Las Vegas Anons a warm welcome. :D

New /gd/ rules -- Posted by r3x on Monday, October 20th, 2008 - 10:40 PM

New General Discussion rules have been posted, check em out here.

Moderation changes -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 - 10:45 PM

For the first week, I've allowed /gd/ to go pretty much unmoderated in order to allow users to get used to it. However, we are going to start moderating /gd/ more strictly in order to allow decent discussion to take place. If your post is an obvious troll or does not contribute constructively to the thread, expect your post to be deleted and to be banned for a day. Repeat offenders may be banned for longer periods of time.

Also, I'd like you all to welcome Conrad to the moderation team. He will be helping moderate /gd/.

New /xenu/ - Project Chanology board! -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 - 2:11 PM

The /xenu/ - Project Chanology board you have all been waiting for is now live, available with the new Black Omen stylesheet.

/i/ - Internet 8 Machine is now for general purpose raids/insurgency ops.

/xenu/ is for dox, leaks, and raids related to Project Chanology, discussion of long term strategy, planning of irl raids/protests, both local and global, and irl raid reports.

/xenu is for those of you who have been waiting for a way to participate in Chanology planning completely anonymously, without being forced to deal with namefags. You can help make it a success by helping to plan for the November global raid. Throw ideas out there, be creative, and make your voice heard. Help bring Project Chanology back to the *chans.

I have moved all Chanology-related threads to /xenu/. If you're looking for a thread, it's probably there now.

New /gd/ - General Discussion Board, new "robo" feature, and more -- Posted by r3x on Monday, October 13th, 2008 - 12:15 PM

R888-Y's training is complete, and he's now ready for the bigtime. We've made some changes to Robo so that now he collects a cache of all posts on 888chan, even on boards on which Robo b&'s aren't enforced.

The /r8y/ - R888-Y board has now become the new /gd/ - General Discussion board. As always, what it becomes will be determined by the Anonymous masses, but I'd like to think it will become a place where people can discuss news, politics, philosophy, and academic/intellectual topics, as well as whatever comes to mind.

R888-Y b&'s will now be enforced on /i/ - Internet 8 Machine and /gd/ - General Discussion.

With the addition of /gd/ comes a new Green Dream stylesheet, which is set as the default stylesheet on /gd/.

If users think a thread is good, but in the wrong place, they can send it to /gd/ with the new robo feature, by typing "robo" in the email field. The "robo" command is currently enabled on /i/ and /td/.

"Sage" will now kill a thread in 5 sages on any board.

The Rules and FAQ have been updated accordingly.

Porn Board, Overchanology, and WE NEED JEWGOLDZ!!! -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 - 6:51 PM

At this time I would like to introduce a board I know you all have been awaiting eagerly.

/p/ - Porn

Dump your whole porn collection on there, fill that shit up.

Second, if you look to the lefthand side of your screen, you will see the new Overchanology section, containing links to all central hubs and local sites related to Project Chanology. If you see a broken link or have a link to add, find me in #888chan and tell me about it.

Lastly, Running this site ain't cheap. If you like what we're doing, if it is relevant to your interests and you would like to subscribe to our newsletter, well, we don't have a newsletter, but we do have a paypal account that is desparately low on jewgolds. A simple donation of $5, $10, or $20 can help ensure that the website and community you love will continue to grow and flourish.

New "Zeal" Theme -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 - 11:49 PM

Gentlemen, I give you yet another new theme, which I dub "Zeal."

Enjoy.

So many changes I don't know where to begin what is this I don't even have a- -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 - 5:20 PM

First off, 888chan now has it's very own IRC network, 8 Ball IRC, a network by and for Anons. More info on the IRC page.

I cleaned up the frontpage stylesheet drastically and merged it with the stylesheets for the imageboards, so that you now have 3 stylesheets to choose from both on the frontpage and each imageboard. I also made the lefthand navbar blocks collapsible. Damn that shit looks sexy.

I made some changes to the imageboards as follows:

  • Threads per page increased to 15 on /td/.
  • Maximum filesize increased to 2048 KB on all boards.
  • Maximum image size increased to 250 x 250 pixels on all boards.
New imageboard: /r8y/ - R888-Y and new sage-like "dome" feature -- Posted by r3x on Friday, September 19th, 2008 - 9:00 PM

At this time I would like to introduce to you a brand new imageboard, /r8y/ - R888-Y. On this board, R888-Y, your new robot overlord, rules with an iron fist. If you make a post that is a duplicate of a previous r8y post, you will be banned for 2^n seconds, n being the number of times you've been banned. The ban count goes down gradually. If you attempt to test or circumvent R888-Y, you will be b& by the moderators. The purpose of r8y is to facilitate decent discussion.

On the other hand, users may have noted that with previous implementations of the Robot9000 script, threads tend to take on a particularly virulent form of cancer and aids. Thus, I give you the users a means by which you can apply chemo to cancer whenever you see it.

Simply by typing "dome" in the email field, users can by their combined efforts send a shitty thread to /td/ to get trolled or otherwise sagebombed. Dome works like sage, except in addition to debumping a thread, it will send the thread to /td/ if enough users from unique IP's dome a thread. The threshold for sending a thread to /td/ can be set according to number, percentage, or both. For example, it could take 5 "domes" or 20% percent of all posts from unique IP's being a "dome" to send it to /td/.

Depending on your point of view, this could be a good or bad thing for a thread. Either way, it was made for your enjoyment.

As always, thank you for playing the game.

888chan TV and Theme Changes -- Posted by r3x on Friday, September 19th, 2008 - 4:16 AM

I added a page for 888chan TV, powered by Mogulus, at /8tv/. It was supposed to have an embedded chat applet, but apparently Partyvan IRC b& it. :( In any case, the channel 888chan TV viewers is #888chan.

As a side note, I sexied up frontpage stylesheet a bit.

I also added a new Redwood theme to /td/ for your enjoyment.

Scheduled Downtime -- Posted by r3x on Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 - 10:43 PM

Tonight there will be a maintenance window between 3:00AM PST and 4:00AM PST. During this time we will be backing up the board and performing database maintenance.

Internet 8 Machine - Pool's Open -- Posted by r3x on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 - 4:19 PM

Sorry for the SQL Error's earlier today; they're fixed now.

And now, introducing to you, 888chan's very own /i/ board, the Internet 8 Machine, available with a new Marcabian theme, which is also available in /td/.

Dox and raids go in /i/ from now on.

/td/ Archive and Themes -- Posted by r3x on Friday, August 29th, 2008 - 9:37 PM

Tired of threads disappearing when they die? Now you can enjoy them forever with the new /td/ Archive.

Also, I went ahead and made a separate Thunderdome theme and restored the Futaba theme to its original version.

/td/ Banners -- Posted by r3x on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 - 12:04 AM

I was rather overwhelmed by all the outstanding submissions for the /td/ Banner Contest. So, I went and set up a rotating banner script, displaying the six best images. Thank you to everyone who submitted a banner.

Feel free to submit more banners if you're feeling creative.

/td/ Banner Contest -- Posted by r3x on Sunday, August 17th, 2008 - 9:37 PM

I'm taking submissions for a /td/ banner. The banner must be 400x400 pixels, and batshit crazy. Do it faggots.

What happens when some ThunderDome trolls go and create a chan? Well, this is it.

Let The Game Begin.

ABOUT

Anonymous Reclaims Project Chanology

FAQ

Fags Answer Questions

What is 888chan?

888chan is an image based bulletin board styled after the Japanese Futaba Channel. The format of the boards allows users to read and participate in discussions anonymously, leading to a vibrant, sometimes wild, yet very creative culture, as people who are Anonymous will generally say and do whatever they wish without fear of drawing criticism beyond a single post or thread.

Why 888chan?

August 8th, 2008 (8/8/8) is the day Anonymous Reclaimed Project Chanology, beginning Phase 3.

If you wish to learn more about Project Chanology, read the Encyclopedia Dramatica article about it here.

So 888chan is a *chan for Chanology?

While our current focus is on bringing Project Chanology to a successful conclusion, 888chan has a forward-looking vision.

We at 888chan mean to provide a base of support for the concept of combined Anonymous operations, both On The Internet (OTI) and In Real Life (iRL), in the same type of venue (an imageboard that allows Anonymous posting) that originally gave rise to the concept of Anonymous and Project Chanology.

On 888chan, protestfags, trolls, Hackers on Steroids, moralfags, and lulzfags alike are welcome, provided they are willing to:

  • Check their egos at the door,
  • See themselves as part of a greater whole, and
  • Cooperate with others who have different motivations for being a part of 888chan.
Is 888chan just the Thunderdome 2.0?

888chan exists to give a home to the culture and philosophy that developed during Project Chanology, and in the Thunderdome especially: that nothing is sacred and no one is safe from being trolled or called out, not even modfags or admins.

While our roots are in the Thunderdome, we aim to make 888chan everything you've ever wanted in a *chan. What 888chan becomes is something for the Anonymous masses to decide.

Isn't Project Chanology better off decentralized?

Decentralization doesn't mean we should be fragmented and disconnected. While various local and online groups can and should have their own treehouses, 888chan allows everyone the opportunity to participate in the Chanology community on equal footing, allowing for the growth and development of a strong, interconnected social network, and fertile ground for new ideas.

How do I format my posts?

You can format your posts using WakabaMark.

The basic features are as follows:

  • Surround text with * or _ to make < em> tags. _Like this_ or *like this*. This makes the text italic.
  • Surround text with ** or __ to make < strong> tags. This makes the text bold.
  • Make an unordered HTML list by beginning each line with *, or -. You can add line breaks in list entries by breaking the line and indenting the next line with one or more spaces.
  • Make ordered HTML lists by beginning the first line with "1.", and the following lines with further numbers. It actually doesn't matter what numbers you use, as long as the first one is 1.
  • Make < blockquote> sections by beginning each line with ">".
  • Make < code> sections by indenting each line by four spaces or one tab. Code sections get shown in a monospaced font, and are not otherwise formatted.
  • Make short spans of code in normal text by enclosing the code in backticks, `like so` . To display code that contains backticks, use several backticks to surround it, ``like so`` .
  • Make external links by just typing the URL you want to link to. Post references like >>1 are also automatically turned into links.

Do not leave empty lines in the middle of lists or quoted blocks, as this turns them into separate blocks.

Is it safe to post on a *chan? Will people be able to access my IP and personal info?

It's perfectly safe to post on a *chan, as long as you yourself don't post any personal info. Only admins and moderators have access to IP's.

What can I do if my dox get posted on 888chan?

Sadly, not much. We do not necessarily condone doxing or harrassment of anyone who has their dox dropped on 888chan, but we will not go out of our way to remove or prevent posting of dox. If you were stupid and left your personal info on your MySpace page, don't come crying to us when you get doxed.

What is the "sage" feature, and how does it work?

If you think a thread is total crap and want it to die, post "sage" in the email field. After a certain amount of sages, a thread will no longer bump to the top of the page if replied to.

What is the "dome" feature, and how does it work?

If you think a thread is crap, you can vote to send it to /td/ to get trolled. Whether it's good or bad that thread moves to /td/ is a matter of perspective.

  • Users can vote to move a thread by typing "dome" in the email field.
  • The threshold for moving a thread is set according to an algorithm that takes into account:
    • Minimum thread length to move thread
    • Percentage of total posts divided by total "dome" votes.
  • For example, with minimum length set at 5, and percentage set at 20:
    • Under 5 total posts, the thread cannot be domed.
    • From 5 to 10 total posts, it would take 2 "dome" votes to move the thread to /td/ (20% of 10 = 2).
    • From 11 to 15 total posts, it would take 3 "dome" votes to move the thread to /td/ (20% of 15 = 3).
    • etc.
  • Users witnessed doming a thread for no reason or attempting to abuse the system will be banned.
What is R888-Y?

R888-Y, a.k.a. Robo, is 888chan's robot guardian, tasked with ensuring that 888chan remains free of faggotry, cancer, aids, old copypasta, forced memes, and such. Being from the post-apocalyptic wasteland that is the future, Robo places a high value on the protection of nature.

  • On any board with R888-Y rules enabled, if you make a duplicate of any post on 888chan, you will be banned for 2^n seconds, n being the number of times you have been banned.
  • Your b& count will go down slowly
  • The R888-Y rules are designed to facilitate decent discussion.
  • Attempts to test or circumvent R888-Y may warrant a b& from the moderators.
