So what if they’re hosting similar game shows this summer? Sure, that competition might make other performers jealous. Not Joey Fatone and Wayne Brady, who share a Central Florida connection.
Fatone debuts July 10 in NBC’s "The Singing Bee." Here’s what he says about Brady: "Wayne and I went to the same high school — he graduated six years before me — had the same drama teacher and worked at Universal Studios together in the same show. Wayne is a good friend." (That school was Dr. Phillips High School.)
How close are the two entertainers? "When Wayne comes to Orlando to visit or I go to L.A. for work, we always get together, have dinner, share business stories and talk about when we dreamed of making a living at this level of the entertainment business," Fatone says. "We have been close since 1995. It’s crazy to think how far we have both come."
Brady will star in Fox’s "Don’t Forget the Lyrics!" Like "The Singing Bee," it has a karaoke theme, requiring contestants to remember lyrics to win cash. "Don’t Forget the Lyrics!" will debut July 11.
Brady feels the same admiration for Fatone. "Joey is a dear friend of mine," Brady says. "I believe there’s room for everyone."
And Brady dismisses the notion of any rivalry. "It’s nothing scandalous," he says. "If we were both plumbers, and he got a job with a rvial firm, I’d be happy for him."
