NEW YORK, May 8 (UPI) -- A thief left pregnant actress Amanda Peet distressed when he broke into her home last year, her husband testified in a New York court.

"She was pregnant and she was panicked," David Friedman testified Friday at the trial of Henry Santos, a career criminal accused breaking into the couple's home, the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

A jewelry box valued at $900, jewelry and an Apple AirPort Wi-Fi router were taken in the October 2009 break-in, the New York Post reported.

"It was jewelry I'd given her while we were dating and a pair of earrings my parents had given her," said Friedman, a screenwriter known professionally as David Benioff.

Peet wasn't home when the break-in occurred, but the couple's babysitter, Michelle Werner, was. She testified she came upon Santos in a hallway when she walked into the loft apartment.

"What's up, bitch?" Werner said he asked her before fleeing.

The couple's daughter, Frances, was 2 years old at the time of the robbery. Her sister, Molly, was born in April.

Santos's attorney, John Youngblood, has challenged Werner's identification of Santos in a lineup and said no physical evidence was available to tie his client to the crime.

Closing arguments were expected to begin Monday, the Daily News said. Santos could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
