(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Miley Cyrus in an S&M outfit doing some pole-dancing? Shocking but true – she does that and more in her new music video for the song "Can't Be Tamed."
She debuted the video this week for her album of the same name due out June 22 and already many critics are calling it too sexy for her tween "Hannah Montana" audience.
In the video, she's dressed at first as a huge bird in a cage before she breaks out and does some very steamy dancing, several times just about locking lips with female dancers. Is the teen star trying to kill her Hannah Montana image?
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest posted at E! Online , Cyrus said: "The video isn't about being sexy or who can wear less clothes … it's about explaining the song and living the lyrics."
But the lyrics themselves are a bit risque for someone not old enough to vote yet: "I go through guys like money flyin' out their hands, they try to change me but they realize they can't" and "Have to get my way 24 hours a day, cause I'm hot like that."
Is this any way for Hannah Montana to behave? Well, with that show coming to an end, Miley has been going out of her way to change her image and move into more mature roles in her movies and her music.
She said in March : "I won't have this mold they want me to fit into … as I've grown into Hannah Montana, I've also grown out of her."
Cyrus was also criticized by some U.S. parents groups last August for briefly swinging on a pole during a performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards .
Miley's following a trend with her video of a caged woman who breaks out of her restraints. Lady Gaga's "Telephone" was set with the singer in a prison; she and Beyonce then go on a "Thelma and Louise" kind of spree in the video.
And Christina Aguilera's newest video "Not Myself Tonight" portrays her in S&M-type bondage outfits.
As Miley told Ryan Seacrest : "I don't want to be in a cage. I want to be free and do what I love."
