ANIMATION
Joe Murray is the Emmy-winning animator behind cult kids' shows Rocko's Modern Life and Camp Lazlo for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. He's skipping the studios to start his own all-cartoon web channel, with exclusive videos, limited-edition DVDs, original artwork, and animation classes for backers.
TECHNOLOGY
Diaspora is a project from four NYU developers who hope to build an open source social network that will allow users to fully control their online privacy and identity. Their Kickstarter project embraces openness as well: rewards include access to the nightly build server as development continues.
FILM
"Nothing Can Hurt Me" is Danielle McCarthy and Drew DeNicola's documentary on Big Star, a legendary and wonderful band from the early '70s enshrined in lore. Big Star's iconoclastic singer Alex Chilton died just a month ago, and this project will send Danielle and Drew to document a star-studded tribute in Memphis next month.

DJ Carl M. Hamm has long had a fascination with '60s Malaysian pop, collecting hidden gems and sharing them with the world. His devotion has paid off: the legendary label Sublime Frequencies has agreed to release a comp of new recordings, provided he can raise the money to collect them. Click for the full story.

Brooklyn Brainery hosts collaborative classes on everything from making perfume to cooking pork shoulder -- now they just need a home base! Backers of the initiative will receive everything from "seed paper" to notebooks hand-made from found materials.

Jon Goldman's family has a long history of both being in the oil business, and of strident environmentalism. That fact is the centerpiece of his graphic novel and film, "Oil in the Family," which is nicely presented here.
ART
Peep Show is an inventive art installation from PlayLab, a Brooklyn based design company. PlayLab will install a dozen large, colorful pyramids in a storefront window, each with a peep hole revealing something unexpected.

Yes internet, there are still Brooklyn rooftops without urban farms. Brooklyn Grange is an enormous one-acre farm on a Brooklyn roof growing all sorts of sustainable vegetables. Most of the produce is for local pick-up only, but they invite backers outside NYC to get in touch for arrangements.

For the last five years, photographer Rachel Sussman has traveled the world photographing its oldest living things. Her spectacular finds have included everything from predatory fungus to 100,000 year old sea grass - but she's not done yet! With Kickstarter, she'll complete the project and turn it into a book.
