Most editorial work-experience placements at Guardian News & Media are dedicated to those on our various bursary and award schemes, particularly in holiday periods. For details of these schemes and how to apply for them, please click on the Internships and Traineeships link.

Outside of these programmes, work-experience openings are limited. To be considered for any available placements, you must be at least 18 and show a proven commitment to a career in journalism - for example, serious involvement in student journalism, substantial work experience on local/trade media, or an impressive personal website or blog.

Please send your cv, contact details and dates of availability to one of the email addresses below, as appropriate:

· The Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk now run a largely integrated editorial operation across news, business, sport, pictures and other specialist reporting areas, such as environment, education, consumer, media and technology. To apply for work experience in these areas (except sport - see below), or on G2, Weekend magazine and the culture sections, or on guardian.co.uk sites such as Comment is free, Life & Style, Culture, blogs and in multimedia production, please email your application to work.experience@guardian.co.uk.

State clearly in the subject field your top two preferred areas for placement. (Applications for the web should include two suggestions for improving guardian.co.uk and three feature ideas.)

· For work experience on the GNM sports desk, please apply directly to penny.woods@guardian.co.uk with your name in the subject line

· For work experience on the Guardian's fashion desk, please apply directly to kelly.bowerbank@guardian.co.uk

· For work experience on the Observer (news, Review or magazines), please send your cv to obs.experience@observer.co.uk, stating clearly in your covering note your preferred areas for placement.

Placements range from several days to a maximum two weeks.

GNM also hosts one-day Insight into Journalism programmes for those exploring whether to pursue a career in this field. Details are in the Internships and Traineeships section.

Journalism students or graduates considering a career in journalism may be interested in opportunities for more regular paid experience as uploaders on guardian.co.uk. For full details please visit: guardian.co.uk/information/uploaders
