Liz Kendall is a social policy consultant. She was special adviser to Patricia Hewitt MP, when she was secretary of state for health (2005 – 2007) and secretary of state for trade and industry and minister for women (2004 – 2005).
She was previously director of The Maternity Alliance, the national charity for pregnant women, new parents and babies under one, and an associate director at the Institute for Public Policy Research, the UK’s leading progressive think-tank. At IPPR, Liz ran the Institute’s programme of work on health, social care and children’s early years. Liz has also been a research fellow for the King’s Fund’s Public Health Programme and a special adviser to Harriet Harman MP, when she was secretary of state for social security and minister for women.
Liz is the author of numerous publications including: The Future Patient (IPPR, 2001); The Future Health Worker (IPPR 2003); An Equal Start: Improving Support During Pregnancy and the First 12 Months (IPPR 2003); From Welfare to Wellbeing: the Future of Social Care (IPPR 2002); Improving London’s Health: The Role of the Greater London Authority (King’s Fund, 2000) and Citizens’ Juries (IPPR 1994).
