Welcome note from the Co-Presidents

Nigel Farage

The 'European Parliament' has always operated on a peculiar consensus, whereby the established Political Groups – despite proclaiming different priorities – vote the same way on almost everything:  that is, for more legislation, leading to more 'integration'.

The 'Europe of Freedom and Democracy' Group refuses to support that consensus and, in the chamber or out of it, raises the voice of a true opposition.

Francesco Speroni

As Co-President of the EFD Group I welcome you to the website of the 'Europe of Freedom and Democracy' political group in the European Parliament.
EFD Group was created in July 2009 and is composed of delegations from various Member States whose aim is to fight against the bureaucratisation of European Institutions and against the establishment of a European Super-State.  EFD Group supports the idea of a Europe of peoples whose traditions, cultural and religious values need to be safeguarded.
According to the EFD institutional power and decisions need to be legitimized through the people's ability to express themselves through free and democratic referenda.

Just after 8am this morning a light aircraft carrying Nigel Farage, UKIP MEP and President of the Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group in the European Parliament crashed at Hinton in the Hedges airstrip in Northamptonshire, UK.

Currently spokesman for the UKIP party, Mr Farage was a passenger in a small PZL Ozecie PZL-104 plane towing a banner advising people to 'Vote UKIP.'

At this time we understand that the pilot has been taken to hospital in Coventry.

Mr Farage was initially taken to Horton Hospital in Banbury for his non life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford in the afternoon.

Francesco Speroni, co-President of the Europe of Freedom and Democracy group as well as head of the Lega Nord delegation said at 4p today:

"Mr Nigel Farage has previously survived cancer when he was 21. As outlined in his recent autobiography, 'Fighting Bull, he has also survived the full impact from a speeding car.

Knowing Mr Farage, I am sure that this accident will only make 'Mr Invincible' more courageous in his  good fight for Freedom and Democracy."

The EFD Group is sure that everybody will join us in hoping and praying that both Mr Farage and the pilot recover from their injuries as soon as possible.

Mr Farage has initally been diagnosed with  facial injuries, a chipped spine and two broken ribs. He is responding well to treatment.
