Arlen Specter endorsed by Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee

Pennsylvania's Democratic State Committee has endorsed Sen. Arlen Specter in his bid for a sixth Senate term.

Today's endorsement by more than two-thirds of the committee members was an important victory for Specter, a longtime Republican who switched parties in April. It was a setback for his foe in the May 18 primary, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, who has portrayed Specter as a political opportunist and questioned his loyalty to the Democrats.

The committee is meeting at a snow-blanketed hotel in Lancaster.

A potential endorsement for governor has yet to be decided. The gubernatorial field includes Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, state Auditor General Jack Wagner, former congressman Joe Hoeffel and Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty. State Sen. Anthony Williams of Philadelphia said Friday he has filed papers allowing him to raise money for a potential campaign.

Looks like they are just conceding the seat to Toomey.

Specter does not represent the middle income folks in PA. He is an ardent earmarker for the elite, private schools and the defense industry. He has bought their votes with many a well placed earmark.

He repeatedly voted with Bush for nearly a decade.

"Specter does not represent the middle income folks in PA."

And Toomey does? Trust me, if he wins, nothing will change, he'll just pick up where Specter left off!

I wonder what the NRA will do. They gave Specter a lot of money and support over the years. They would not even let Toomey enter their annual meeting in Pittsburgh back in 2004. As an endowment member of the NRA, I was embarrassed by the NRA leadership. Their money and ads may have cost Toomey the race in the northern tier counties.

The Dem. committee would indeed seem to be irrelevant these days. The grassroots folks in both parties need to clean up these committees. The Republican committee in PA is not much better. They carried water for Specter for three decades.

Who will the Glenn Beck Show have to mock if Specter loses?

Will Specter finish the book he's writing called, "Why Don't You Act Like a Lady?"

Obama- idealogue, smug, arrogant, socialist.
Pelosi- bitter, no-leadership.
Dodd- Crooked as one can get, corruption of the finance committee.
Reid- unappealing, lightweight, lefty nutjob, will lose his seat.
Palin- definite lightweight, questionable intelligence.
Rendell- slovenly, corrupt, arrogant
Specter- self, old guard politician, was going to lose Rep. nomination so he converted.
Murtha- had a commercial airport built (named after him) so that he didn't have to drive to Pittsburgh for flights or driving to DC, what a pig, although he's in the hospital...so I'll cut him some slack.

Man, is this the best we can do, and the examples can go on and on and on...nauseating that this corruption goes unchecked. Term limits or an informed electorate is the only solution.
