Arlen Specter endorsed by Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee
February 06, 2010, 1:55PMPennsylvania's Democratic State Committee has endorsed Sen. Arlen Specter in his bid for a sixth Senate term.
Today's endorsement by more than two-thirds of the committee members was an important victory for Specter, a longtime Republican who switched parties in April. It was a setback for his foe in the May 18 primary, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, who has portrayed Specter as a political opportunist and questioned his loyalty to the Democrats.
A potential endorsement for governor has yet to be decided. The gubernatorial field includes Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, state Auditor General Jack Wagner, former congressman Joe Hoeffel and Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty. State Sen. Anthony Williams of Philadelphia said Friday he has filed papers allowing him to raise money for a potential campaign.
