REGINA — Saskatchewan loves its Roughriders — and the province’s football fans are showing it.

In just three days, customers have snapped up approximately 3,100 commemorative Roughrider licence plates, which salute the 100th anniversary of the Green and White.

On average, 1,100 plates are sold across the province per day — that’s in addition to sales of the popular Roughrider plates. Motor licence issuers across the province experienced heavy lineups on Wednesday, when the plates became available.

Some opened early in anticipation of the high demand. By the end of the day, 1,543 plates had been sold.

Saskatchewan Government Insurance, the province’s self-sustaining auto insurance fund, predicts 5,000 to 10,000 Rider plates will be purchased over the year.
