Welcome to CBC's Independent Producers' Website.
You may have seen in the news various accounts of our current financial situation, which includes an overall projected shortfall of approximately $171 million and a reduction of 800 positions across CBC/Radio-Canada for fiscal 2009/10. We will manage our way through this difficult period, but not without some inevitable reductions in our programming. This will mean, unfortunately, that we will approve fewer projects. However, we remain committed to our mandate and our overall strategic direction. Notwithstanding the constraints we all will face as we get through this, we look forward to continuing to work with you.
With growing success, we have increased and elevated Canadian Entertainment on CBC, and will continue to do so by working with you. We want to be engaging, compelling, relevant and important to Canadians - in minds and hearts, and in living rooms! We support a greater quantity and range of genres than any network in the country, with the aim of appealing to the various interests and passions of Canadians.
And we know what Canadians want - we want to be entertained, we want to be compelled, we want to know more about the world and sometimes just escape from it. We identify with universal stories and characters that we can relate to but we're also interested in getting a glimpse of a world we wouldn't otherwise know. We are smart, creative, inquisitive and diverse. We are uniquely and patriotically Canadian!
