HYPER STATIC UNION | Lifegiver

By Irma Olthoff

Cover Pic of Hyper Static Union | LifegiverQuite a bit of hype has surrounded this new band, picked up by Third Day’s Consuming Fire Productions and RKT Music. Admittedly, I enjoyed the catchy melodic funk-rock sound across the whole album, but it took me quite a few spins to get into it.

A lot of the tracks are nice on the ears, but together they don’t really seem to flow as an album. I’ll probably load about three tracks on the iPod and the rest won’t get too much play. Don’t write them off, though; backed by Third Day, this band is set for life.

Kinda funny to hear them being called a “new band,” as they’ve been putting on incredible shows in the area for . . . 7 years or more? Their live cover of “I Will Survive” was simply magical, and proof enough for me that the band will go places. Their funk-rock is unbeatable, and I hope they don’t end up abandoning it for more radio-friendly pop tunes any time soon.
