RESIDENCIES

The residency program at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine is a one year post graduate, formal education program that offers the participant the opportunity to gain a wide range of clinical experiences in the area of family practice medicine.

The resident will rotate through a variety of areas, working with the Medical Center's experienced staff of Naturopathic physicians, as well as medical specialists in areas such as Pediatrics, Urology, emergency room care, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Geriatric medicine, and Cardiology.

In addition, each resident physician will begin to develop their own medical skills under the mentorship of Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center's medical staff. When the doctor has completed the program, he/she has the opportunity to choose to become a second year resident in General Family Medicine or go into a more selective residency program for another two years. These select residencies include Environmental Medicine, Pediatrics, and Homeopathy.

Second Year Residency

To qualify as an applicant for the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine Second Year Residency Program 2009-2010, you must have completed a First Year Residency Program that has been accredited or has been granted accreditation status by the Council for Naturopathic Medical Education or its equivalent. All applicants must have passed board exams required for licensure in the State of Arizona, as well as the “Add-On Examinations” of Homeopathy, Acupuncture, and Minor Surgery on or prior to the summer of 2009.

Deadline for the Second Year Residency application is August 1, 2009.

To qualify as an applicant for the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine Homeopathy Residency Program 2009-2010, you must have completed a first year Naturopathic Residency program and/or have been in practice as a Naturopathic Physician for one year. You must have a Naturopathic Doctor degree from a college or university that has been accredited or has been granted accreditation status by the Council for Naturopathic Medical Education or its equivalent. All applicants must have passed board exams required for licensure in the State of Arizona.

Deadline for Homeopathy Residency application is August 1, 2009.

Pediatric Residency

The Pediatric Residency is a two year program designed to train Naturopathic Physicians in the care of infants and children. The resident will be exposed to a variety of modalities and areas of pediatric medicine which includes: newborn care, well child exams, preventative medicine, and naturopathic and conventional treatments for both common and complex conditions. On-site and off-site training locations are part of the program. The resident will have the opportunity to see patients privately, supervise naturopathic medical students, and observe patient treatment by other physicians.

To qualify as an applicant for the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine Environmental Medicine Residency Program 2009-2010, you must have completed a first year Naturopathic Residency program and/or have been in practice as a Naturopathic Physician for one year. You must have a Naturopathic Doctor degree from a college or university that has been accredited or has been granted accreditation status by the Council for Naturopathic Medical Education or its equivalent. All applicants must have passed board exams required for licensure in the State of Arizona.

Deadline for Environmental Medicine Residency application is August 24, 2009.
