Project Description
Located in the Gulf of Mexico on Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460, 504 and a portion of 503, the Appaloosa prospect is situated in a water depth of 2,800 feet (853 meters). Eni, the operator, owns 100% interest.

On Dec. 7, 2005, Eni submitted an IEP to drill, complete and test five exploratory wells on the Appaloosa prospect. In 2007, the Deepwater Millennium drillship drilled two wells, but a discovery was not reported. A year later, the GSF Celtic Sea semisub was contracted and drilled well MC459 #1. The drilling encountered oil hydrocarbons.

Appaloosa Field Development

In December 2008, Appaloosa was approved for field development at a total investment of $228 million. Development includes subsea wells linked to an existing area facility, the Corral platform.

As of 2009, Eni continues to drill on the field. The Transocean Amirante semisub was leased to drill a development well during the third quarter of 2009. Once development drilling is finished, the wells will be tied-back to the Corral platform (previously named the Crystal platform). The oil treatment capacity of the platform will be expanded, in order to accommodate the production increase from the Appaloosa field.

First oil from Appaloosa should commence in January 2010, with an expected production peak of 7,500 bopd.

Technip Inks GOM Subsea Contract
Type: Contract Award

Nov. 2009 - Technip was awarded a subsea contract for the ENI-operated Appaloosa development project in the Gulf of Mexico. The workscope involves tying-back the Appaloosa well to the Corral platform, situated on Mississippi Canyon Block 305, and includes project management and surveys, engineering, pipeline, subsea and umbilical installation and pre-commissioning and de-watering of the flowline. Appaloosa is located in 2,798 feet (853 meters) of water, spanning Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460 and partial blocks 503, 504. The discovery was made on MC460 (BH MC459) in May 2008 by Transocean's GSF Celtic Sea, a 4th generation, deepwater semisubmersible. ENI wholly owns and operates the project.

Transocean Amirante to Drill Development Well at Appaloosa
Type: Development Activity

May. 2009 - ENI contracted the Transocean Amirante semisub to drill a development well at the Appaloosa field located on Mississippi Canyon Block 460 (BH - 459). ENI wholly owns and operates the field.

ENI has Sactioned the Appaloosa Unit Development
Type: Development Activity

Jan. 2009 - The Appaloosa Unit development was sanctioned in December, 2008 with a total investment of $228.1 million. The Appaloosa Unit, which is entirely held by ENI, consists of Mississippi Canyon Blocks 459, 460 and a portion of 503 and 504 in 2,800 feet of water. Oil processing capacity at Corral Platform will be upgraded to accomodate Appaloosa's first oil, which is expected to flow in January 2010 with a peak rate of 7,500 bopd.
