Welcome to Institute of Information & Mathematical Sciences
Welcome to the website of Massey University’s Institute of Information and Mathematical Sciences. IIMS, as we are known, is one of several research-led Institutes within the College of Sciences at Massey. We are based on the Albany campus at Auckland, which is New Zealand’s largest city and commercial hub.
IIMS focuses on four closely related disciplines; Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, and Information Technology; domains that underpin every aspect of our lives - our work, our leisure, even our interactions with family and friends. is proud of the contributions it makes to these endeavours at local, national, and international levels through its research and teaching.
IIMS has one of the highest-ranked Mathematics Groups in New Zealand, with research in analysis and number theory, industrial and applied mathematics, and mathematical biology. The Statistics Group engages in high-quality research as well as applied consulting, with specialties in graph theory, regression and advanced modelling, Bayesian analysis and ecological statistics.
Researchers in the Computer Science area have made significant progress in the applications of graphics processors in parallel and supercomputing as well as advances in artificial intelligence and robotics. The Information Technology Group focuses on mobile computing with specialisations in mobile learning, mobile health, and mobile business.
More information on these research areas is available on this website along with the information on our main degree programmes; the Bachelor of Information Sciences (BInfSc) and the Bachelor of Sciences (BSc). These and other programmes we teach into are closely informed by our research work so that students are exposed to cutting edge topics and curricula designed to develop critical and independent teaching.
IIMS is located on Auckland’s North Shore, an area of rapid growth that is managing to preserve the best of New Zealand’s wonderful lifestyle.
If you would like to be part of these exciting developments then please contact us. We would be delighted to help.
