This Week In Hawks History: May 11-17

Some memorable dates this week in Blackhawks history:

Patrick Kane

  • Last year on May 11, Patrick Kane scored his first playoff hat trick and captain Jonathan Toews got the game-winner as the young Blackhawks overcame a one-goal deficit twice in the final period to oust Vancouver 7-5, moving on to the Western Conference Final for the first time in 15 years.
  • It was this week in 1995 when the Hawks swept Vancouver in the conference semifinals, thanks to three overtime wins and a shutout by goalie Ed Belfour.
  • It was May 11, 1995 in the conference quarterfinals, that after losing the first two games of the series at the brand-new United Center, that the Hawks edged the Maple Leafs 3-2 in Toronto. Chicago won three of the next four contests to move on to the semifinals against Vancouver.
  • On May 12, 1985 in the conference final against the defending Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, the Hawks tied a team record with five power play goals to whip the Oilers 8-6 and tie the best of seven series 2-2.
  • Two nights later — May 14, 1985 –  the Hawks set a team mark with five power play goals, but Edmonton, led by Wayne Gretzky, won 10-5.
  • In the opening game of the conference final at the Stadium on May 16, 1992, the Hawks crushed Edmonton 8-2 on their way to a second straight playoff series sweep.
