According to a number of reports from Turkey, experienced gaffer Mustafa Denizli has resigned as head coach of Turkcell Super Lig titans Besiktas due to medical reasons.

The 60-year-old Denizli started the job as Besiktas coach in October 2008 and immediately won the league title in his first season with the Istanbul outfit. Besiktas finished only fourth in the table this term.

Denizli is the only coach who has won the Turkish league with three different clubs. Aside from his success with Besiktas, he also guided Fenerbahce and Galatasaray to domestic glory.

Former Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster is reportedly sitting in pole position to replace Denizli at Besiktas. The German coach's agent revealed that Schuster is close to signing a two-year deal with Besiktas.

Besiktas have yet to confirm the departure of Denizli, but an official statement is expected to be released later on Wednesday.
