The flame-haired star kick-started Gatwick Runway Models – a hunt for a boy and a girl to win a New Faces contract with Storm, the model agency.
The winners could find themselves following in the footsteps of Kate Moss, who was spotted at JFK airport in the US by Storm Model Management founder Sarah Doukas, by joining the supermodel jet set.
Successful entrants will also take to the runway at London Gatwick Fashion Week in August.
Kim Francis, a spokeswoman for Gatwick airport, said: ''With thousands of passengers passing through the airport every day, Gatwick is a hot bed of untapped model potential.
''Gatwick Runway Models aims to take advantage of this pool of talent and recreate Storm's discovery of Kate Moss in the 80s.
''The competition really will change the winners' lives.''
Budding models travelling through Gatwick can strike a pose in bespoke model photo-booths, located airside in both the North and South terminals.
Storm Model scouts will also be on site to spot any more camera-shy talent.
Hopefuls can also register online at www.gatwickevents.com/runwaymodels.
Eight entrants will attend a model boot camp day to learn the tricks of the trade.
Members of the public can also vote for their favourite entrants online, to help them earn a place on the shortlist.
Showcasing what retailers at the airport have to offer, London Gatwick Fashion Week will take place at Gatwick's North terminal on August 5 to 8.
