Biography

Pridak was originally a servant to the Brotherhood of Makuta, and the aide of Icarax. While working for the Brotherhood, Pridak traveled to Xia, to assist Icarax in "convincing" the Vortixx to lower their prices. He was intrigued by the city and its importance. So lost was he in his thoughts, Mutran and Icarax nearly had to drag him back to Destral. Later, he was assigned to rule a relatively small, worthless area, but it was enough to incite his lust for ruling others. He abandoned service under the Brotherhood and took up a life as a conqueror. He, along with the other five Barraki, formed an alliance as the League of Six Kingdoms, conquering much of the known Matoran Universe. Pridak once ruled the northeastern part of the Matoran Universe, including Xia. In their final stages of a plan to assault Metru Nui, the Barraki were captured during an ambush by the Brotherhood of Makuta. Moments before their execution by Teridax, Botar appeared and exiled them to The Pit. They remained there for thousands of years until the Great Cataclysm shattered the dome of The Pit and released the prisoners out into the ocean. Pridak and the others swam out and were subsequently mutated into monstrous forms.

Mask of Life

After the Ignika fell into the sea, Pridak learned of the Mask's arrival and, during his search, launched an attack on Defilak, Gar, Idris, and Sarda as they explored the depths of the ocean in a submarine of Defilak's design. He brought the four Matoran to a cave where he interrogated them without success, at one point throwing Sarda out of the cave into the midst of the waiting Takea sharks. After he told the Matoran that he was a Barraki, Defilak, knowing the legend told Pridak that he couldn't be a Barraki. Pridak then took him to the top of the salt mountains, overlooking the siege of Mahri Nui and told a shocked Defilak the story of the Barraki, stating he hated to see anyone die ignorant. He then asked the Matoran where the mask was, and threatened to kill him and all of Mahri Nui's inhabitants if he didn't answer. Defilak stalled for time, and brought Pridak to the lowlands, saying the mask was under a clump of seaweed. Suddenly, he and Pridak came face to face with the 300 Feet Mutant Venom Eel the Mask of Life had created. The Matoran took the opportunity and escaped, with Pridak forgetting him entirely in his haste. Pridak swam towards the location from which the eel came from. He came across a fleeing Mantax who told him what had happened and the two went off to investigate.

The two Barraki met with Ehlek and Carapar along with Brutaka, who had recently been banished to The Pit, mutated by the waters enough to allow him to breathe. After quickly establishing who was under who, the four went into the cave where they revived Kalmah and found Dekar holding the Ignika in his hands. After Brutaka made a failed attempt to seize the mask and was torn away by a Giant Squid at the Barraki's request, Pridak went towards the Matoran and touched the mask, causing a bright light to spread through out the sea. It was this bright light that transformed the Toa Inika into Toa Mahri.

His curse from the Ignika enhanced his rage and madness. After regaining consciousness, he threatened to smash the Mask of Life if Kalmah did not get away. Takadox managed to hypnotize him and he calmed down. Pridak led the Barraki to meet the Toa Mahri, minus Matoro. He revealed the Kanohi Ignika and commented it was unusual for Hahli to recognize it as few had seen the mask and lived. Pridak decided to take the Mahri to the Barraki's caves, where they were held prisoner by various sea creatures. He then led the Barraki to meet Nocturn, and arranged a deal to have him watch the Mask of Life in exchange for a squid launcher and not getting eaten.

Pridak and his sea creatures, also with Takadox, a cornered Toa Matoro and Maxilos (Teridax in disguise). Matoro flash-froze the two Barraki only to have them smash their way out. He then summoned an army of dead sea creatures to attack Pridak's sharks. The vicious battle was only ended when thousands of electric eels commanded by Ehlek beset and slaughtered Pridak's (and Matoro's) forces in mass. Ehlek was angry for several sharks had "attacked" his army. In reality, Toa Hewkii had altered the shark's gravity and they had appeared to dive at Ehlek's forces.

Pridak responded with anger to the attack and began a battle against Ehlek, with Takadox joining Pridak in the conflict. The fight ended when Mantax sent word to him and the other Barraki to meet him at the Razor Whale's Teeth in one day's time. Pridak made his way to the meeting spot, where Mantax revealed to the Barraki that he had obtained the Mask of Life. He also explained that one of the Barraki had betrayed them back when they had fought with the Brotherhood of Makuta, before they were placed in The Pit, with the Tablet of Transit as his evidence. He ordered that the traitor reveal himself, or else he wouldn't give them the mask. His stalemate, however, was broken by an avalanche caused by Hydraxon's fight with Maxilos, which knocked the warlords off balance. Pridak watched as Mantax tried to flee from the cascade of stone, but was hit in the arm by a throwing dagger. Takadox, revealing himself to be the traitor, stole the mask and contract from Mantax, and then held a dagger to his throat. Pridak fled to avoid the rest of the avalanche.

Later the Barraki gathered again, grudgingly forcing Takadox to help get the mask, instead of just killing him. They were gathering their armies together, readying for a final assault on the Toa Mahri, who were in possession of the mask. They were confronted by Maxilos, who taunted them and then revealed that he was really Teridax. Wanting revenge, the Barraki attacked, not knowing that Teridax was merely attempting to delay them from getting the mask. Beating four of the Barraki, he was then confronted only by Pridak and Takadox. After Teridax put Takadox into an illusion, Pridak engaged in conversation, in reality stalling until the Barraki's forces could get there. The other Barraki immediately got up, having faked unconsciousness. Pridak and the rest of the Barraki then launched the largest attack on one being in the history of the universe. The Barraki left Maxilos's body shattered, and went on to face the Toa Mahri. The Barraki quickly overwhelmed most of the Toa with their massive army, and were on the verge of victory when Jaller started preparing a Nova Blast. Pridak ordered his army to take him out, but they were unable to do so. When Jaller was about to unleash the Nova Blast, Matoro transported the Toa Mahri to Metru Nui.

Order of Mata Nui

Pridak was able to evade capture for a while, but was inevitably re-imprisoned. Not long after, Pridak and the other three Barraki remaining in the Pit were offered the chance to fight the Brotherhood of Makuta in the Order of Mata Nui's army. Pridak accepted the offer for all of the Barraki, seeing an opportunity to rebuild the League of Six Kingdoms.

After being free from The Pit, Pridak quickly gathered an army and ventured out to conquer. On the first island he attacked, Pridak discovered that an old fortress existed underneath the one being attacked. He explored the fortress, and discovered a mound of rubble with writing on it. Believing that it was destroyed by someone who did not want the information known and thus would be of some value, he began to patiently piece the wall back together.

After reading the details of Brotherhood's plot, he contacted the other Barraki to propose an alliance to The Shadowed One, making an offer of information on the viruses the Shadowed One had found. He agreed, on the condition that he and Pridak meet in the realm of Karzahni.

Abilities and Traits

Pridak is one of the strongest, and fastest of the Barraki. He has the enhanced senses of a shark (keen eyesight, hearing, smell), as well as the ability to sense electrical fields. He is a fiery leader and will not hesitate to punish disobedience or insolence with pain. Pridak rules according to his emotions, and is able to hold a grudge against someone indefinitely.

Pridak views life simply. If someone is in the way, he expects them to get out of his way, or he will destroy them. He sees himself as born to rule, entitled to power, and anything he does to maintain that power is simply being true to himself, not caring who or what gets hurt.

His mutations were possibly the worst punishment he could receive; before his transformation he took great pride in his own appearance and believed creatures that carried monstrous faces were dead inside and managed not to notice. He, like the other Barraki, despises Teridax, and would not hesitate to defy him to his face. His hate for Teridax is especially intense, compared to the other Barraki, as he alone once worked as little more than a slave of the Brotherhood of Makuta. Although hot-headed, he is very practical; since he saw no gain from killing the Matoran of Mahri Nui, he chose not to, but if he could have gotten something out of it, he would gladly have destroyed the entire city without any qualms.

Tools

Pridak fights with two Shark Tooth Blades (which are nearly as strong as Protosteel), along with his own teeth that can pierce Protosteel, and a Squid Launcher.

Pridak was released as a 47-piece canister set in the first half of 2007. The set came with two Sea Squids which could be attached to clips on his right hand. He wielded a Squid Launcher in his left hand and one of his Shark Tooth Blades in each (the Shark Tooth Blade piece was also used as part of his armor to represent a dorsal fin and tailfin). His head and Shark Tooth Blades featured white plastic blended with red plastic, the latter of which was of a soft, rubbery variety on the Shark Tooth Blades. Pridak was the first canister set with waist articulation.

Pridak can be combined with the Kalmah and Takadox sets in order to create the Zyglak model.

A Pridak minifigure was released in 2007 in the Toa Terrain Crawler and Toa Undersea Attack playsets. The minifigure featured a recolored Takadox minifigure head (still with red eyes and light blue markings), as a Pridak minifigure head piece was not produced. The Pridak minifigure in Toa Undersea Attack, interestingly, features a dark silver torso rather than the black torso from the Toa Terrain Crawler version which better matches the Pridak set.

Trivia

  • It has been confirmed by Greg Farshtey that the markings on Pridak's face and weapons do not represent blood, as was once commonly believed. He has confirmed them to be natural markings.
  • Pridak's favorite hunting grounds were the Pillars of Salt.
