The New Milwaukee County Zoo ~ 1961-1984

Zoomobile tour trains from Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company were delivered to the Zoo in May 1965.

In the fall, the Small Mammal Building opened to the public.  The building was unique because it was divided into two sections, one containing nocturnal animals and one containing daytime animals.  Day could turn into night by the flip of a switch allowing red fluorescent lights to illuminate the exhibits of nocturnal animals.  This gave the animals the impression it was night.  The Small Mammal Building cost $285,000 to construct.
