The city of Owasso is located in both Tulsa County and Rogers County.
"Owasso" is an Osage Indian word meaning "the end" or "turn around." In the early 1900's the "turn around" was the place where the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad line ended -- that was somewhere in a field several miles northeast of Tulsa. In 1906 the town of Owasso was officially formed under the law of the Indian Territory and was chartered as a city on September 28, 1972.
Owasso attributes much of its growth to the fine reputation of its school system, boasting high parental involvement and an active educational foundation that funds innovative teaching programs.
Owasso offers the amenities of a large city while maintaining a strong sense of community in a hometown environment. |
