Work in Progress

We haven’t communicated much lately. We apologies for that. We’ve been busy distributing moulin and advocating Wikimedia.

An update of the software is planned for the coming quarter, thanks to the efforts of Emmanuel and people from the OpenZim project.

Please, allow me to translate a substract of a comment we just received from a happy user of moulin in Arabic:

I remember the image of children and generations of impoverished third-world poor who suffered from deprivation of knowledge and lack of awareness […] to learn the basics of various sciences, through a small CD.

I thank you from the bottom and I wish you the best in right.
Thank you Wikimedia.
Thank Moulin.
W of knowledge in the world

Thanks for your encouragements. The need for offline access to Wikimedia content is still very high.

Release: Wikimedia by moulin in Arabic

Fri, 08 Feb 2008 03:28:02 +0100

Available now, the Arabic version of moulin.
It includes the following Wikimedian projects:

  • Wikipedia (69, 411 articles)
  • Wiktionary (11, 642 articles)
  • Wikisource (2, 578 articles)

While the ratio of articles per Arabic speakers (in the world) is not that great, it’s still an enormous amount of free information for the numerous people the Arab-world, especially in the less-connected rural-areas.

Release: Wikimedia by moulin in French

Mon, 28 Jan 2008 02:43:02 +0100

Please, welcome this new fat french version of moulin.
Sized 1.5GB, it includes:

  • Wikipedia
  • Wiktionary
  • Wikiquote
  • Wikibooks
  • Wikisource
  • Wikiversity

It’s a major release featuring loads of improvements since last one.

Due to Wikipedia’s grow, this new release doesn’t fit on a single CD-R. Present version is a 1.5GB iso which you can burn on a DVD-R or extract to a USB stick.

We will release in the coming weeks a 2CDs version including small fixes and speed improvement: search engine is currently quite slow on Wikipedia and Wiktionary.

Now, go download it !
