Solar energy ready to meet 12 percent of global electricity needs while combating global warming and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs

COPENHAGEN – The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) will hold a series of briefings for media at the United Nations Climate Change Conference – Copenhagen 2009 (COP15) to highlight how solar is ready to meet 15 percent of U.S electricity needs while combating climate change and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. As part of these briefings, solar industry representatives will discuss the policies needed to achieve this goal as outlined in the
Solar Bill of Rights (http://www.solarbillofrights.org). SEIA co-hosts two briefings with the European PhotoVoltaic Industry Association (EPIA), representing 40 nations showcasing their projected solar potential in a newly issued report.

WHAT:  Global solar industry leaders highlight the significant impact solar technologies can have on climate change and job creation and will release a comprehensive report showing how solar can satisfy significant global electricity demands by 2020. The EU and U.S. alone can meet 12% (15% for US) of electricity needs by 2020 with accelerated solar deployment. India, China and developing countries are included.
