Johnson, Hamlin top picks

Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson have never won at Michigan.

California was built as a sister track to Michigan and when you look at past results for the first races each season on both two-mile speedways, you might find a key to build a winning fantasy team this weekend. For instance, in 2009 seven of the top 10 drivers from the season's first race at Fontana were also top-10 when they competed in the Irish Hills come June. In 2008, the two races shared five drivers who finished top-10 in both, and the two shootouts had 10 drivers who raced home in the top 15.

There have been nine races this year on non-restrictor-plate tracks, one mile in length and up. Kevin Harvick, with seven top-10 finishes in those events, has scored the most points at 1,354, with Kyle Busch at 1,345 after acquiring a win, four top-5s, and six top-10 finishes. Matt Kenseth is third with 1,279 points and fourth is feast-or-famine Jimmie Johnson, who's had some horrible finishes on the intermediate speedways but has also won two races and run top-5 in five of the nine outings. At No. 5 is Kurt Busch, with Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Ryan Newman rounding out the top 10. More
