Newark, NJ – The National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils will shift the operations of their top development team to Albany, NY beginning in 2010-11, after spending the past four seasons in Lowell, MA. The American Hockey League team will be known as the Albany Devils and will play its home games at Times Union Center.  The move has been approved by the AHL Board of Governors. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

“We are all looking forward to bringing our AHL team back to the Capital District area,” said Lamoriello. “The support we previously received from the fans in Albany was tremendous.”

Times Union Center served as home ice for the organization’s AHL team for 13 seasons through 2005-06. The NHL Devils originally signed a working agreement with the AHL’s Capital District franchise on May 5, 1993. In 1994-95, the organization won both the NHL Stanley Cup/AHL Calder Cup Championships.

“We are very excited that Times Union Center will be the home of the Albany Devils and we can continue our tradition of AHL hockey in Albany,” said Albany County Executive Mike Breslin. “We look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Devils and another Calder Cup in Albany.  Our many enthusiastic hockey fans will bring great energy and excitement to the games.”

The Albany Devils sweater is red, black, and white, while its logo will feature a stylized “A,” with the organization’s familiar horns and tail.

"I am greatly pleased that the New Jersey Devils American Hockey League affiliate will now be calling Albany and Times Union Center home,” said Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings. "As an ‘All-America’ city, Albany is pleased to officially welcome its newest franchise, which will provide thousands of hockey fans in the Capital Region with exciting play and high-energy excitement.  I congratulate the Devils' organization, Albany County, and the management of Times Union Center for ensuring that hockey will remain part of the fabric of our community."

In 2009-10, the Lowell Devils compiled a franchise-best 39-31-10=88pt (.550) mark, while advancing to the AHL’s Calder Cup Playoffs.

“We would like to thank the fans and the city of Lowell for their enthusiastic support over the past four seasons,” added Lamoriello.
