Hi, My name is Mike Kelly and I live in Virginia, USA. My father, William Kelly (1901-1997), was one of two young boys who were on the cliffs that day and he claimed they were the first people on the scene after Bleriot 'crash-landed' there. I and my family are searching for photos of the event so we would greatly appreciate any help you can give us - directions to websites, etc. If we can can help you in any way then please ask. I am attaching a photo of my Dad in 1968. He was visiting us in NY State and we went to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome to see the old planes flying. He mentioned his experience and they had him recount his tale to the whole crowd! Also there was a Bleriot XI there. I do not remember if it was a replica or a real one. In the photo the propellor looks like a really old one. Currently they have a real one but I don't know it that is the same one as in 1968. This site features the world's oldest still-flying airplane - Mikael Carlson's Thulin-manufactured Bleriot which Mikael flew across the English Channel on July 25, 1999 - duplicating Louis Bleriot's feat ninety years earlier.

This is a great historical resource and offers a monthly newsletter list informing you when new educational materials are available. The intention is to continue to add features corresponding to the 100th anniversary of the event, so new items will be added through the end of 2003. GuestBook Map Service provided by Bravenet.com: |
