Match review panel for round two of the 2010 Toyota AFL Premiership Season

THE AFL wishes to advise the match review panel has reviewed the seven matches played so far from the weekend. Please note, the Hawthorn v Geelong Cats will be reviewed tomorrow, Tuesday April 6.

The following charges were laid:

Jared Brennan, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with a level one bumping or making forceful contact from front-on offence against Matthew Kreuzer, Carlton, during the first quarter of the round two match between the Brisbane Lions and Carlton, played at the Gabba on Thursday April 1, 2010.

In summary, his previous poor record means that his one game sanction, must remain at one game, even with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a level one offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

He has an existing bad record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 137.50 points. He also has 82.81 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 220.31 points and a two-match sanction.

An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 165.23 points and a one-match sanction.

Shannon Hurn, West Coast, has been charged with a level three engaging in rough conduct offence against Paul Stewart, Port Adelaide, during the second quarter of the round two match between West Coast and Port Adelaide, played at Subiaco on Saturday April 3, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.
 
The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points).

This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction.

He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 243.75 points and a two-match sanction.
 
Courtenay Dempsey, Essendon, has been charged with a level two striking offence against Hayden Ballantyne, Fremantle, during the first quarter of the round two match between Essendon and Fremantle, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday April 4, 2010.
 
In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
 
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point).

This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a level two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.
 
Other incidents assessed:

The match day report laid against North Melbourne’s Brent Harvey for tripping St Kilda’s David Armitage during the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed.

The panel said that Harvey grabbed the St Kilda player and threw him across his body, to the ground. The action was not deemed to be a tripping action. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between Port Adelaide’s Matt Thomas and West Coast’s Adam Selwood from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Due to the inconclusive nature of the video evidence, no further action was taken.
