EDITORIAL: Private college

Several distinguished citizens were asked to contribute a chapter to the book in 1999 for the city’s 300th. Retired W&M President Davis Y. Paschall chose as his topic the shedding of state control and going private. He was reprising an idea that originated in 1956. Aghast at the notion, the editors quietly left Paschall out of the book.

We’re in for a great disappointment if the current trends are validated. Some people automatically blame the current administra­tion for ills, so their trend is to vote in another administration. Some automatically vote for their party. Some feel that outsiders would be better, not realizing that outsiders are also politicians who usually vote with their party.
