Christine Bleakley was looking decidedly glum this afternoon as she watched England crash out of the World Cup.

The TV presenter, whose boyfriend Frank Lampard was at the heart of the action during the eventful match, was joined in the stadium by John Terry's wife Toni Poole and Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger.

The celebrity fans were put through a rollercoaster of emotions, but eventually left disappointed as Germany beat England 4-1.

The Germans went two-nil up early in the first half, but Matthew Upson pulled one back for Fabio Capello's men.

Then Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda denied Frank Lampard a perfectly good goal when his shot bounced off the crossbar and over the line.

Things went from bad to worse in the second half when the Germans scored two breakaway goals as England pressed to add to their total.

England fans were hoping the players would not roll over quite so easily.

Meanwhile the wives and girlfriends of the England team gathered in South Africa for the match despite protests from manager Fabio Capello.

Before the tournament, Capello, known as a strict disciplinarian, told the players he did not want wives and girlfriends to be a distraction from the serious business of football.

In Baden Baden four years ago, the Wag sideshow was blamed for disrupting the team.

But Bleakley and Toni Poole couldn't have looked more excited as they flew out to South Africa.

The pair had huge grins on their faces as they left London to fly to Cape Town to support their respective partners.

Glen Johnson's wife Laura was also pictured in the stands along with Matthew Upson's partner Ellie Darby.

Bleakley had previously said she wouldn't be going to South Africa, but it seems she has changed her mind now England have reached the knockout stages of the tournament.

She said recently: 'I'm not going to South Africa, sadly. So of course I'll miss Frank, but he's got a job to do.

'I'll be watching all the matches and supporting him from home though.'

The broad smile on the 31-year-old's face today could also be down to her new job, after she finally decided to leave the BBC and join former One Show co-host Adrian Chiles at ITV.

She said: 'I am looking forward to a brand new experience at ITV albeit with an old friend.

'I have had the most wonderful three years at the BBC and The One Show.

'It has consumed my life in that time and I would not have had it any other way.'

Carly Cole is currently in Sun City with husband Joe and their three-month daughter Ruby, making the most of her time in the warm weather ahead of the match.

But Coleen Rooney decided to stay in England, after deeming the twelve-hour flight too much of an ordeal for her seven-month-old son Kai.

Alex Curran, wife of Steven Gerrard, also made the decision to stay in England.

Meanwhile, WAG Chantelle Tagoe offered support to the Three Lions today - as well as a lion cub and a cheetah.

While England fans were hoping to see the England team roar against Germany, Emile Heskey's fiancee was making the cats purr.

She paid a visit to the Cheetah Experience sanctuary in Bloemfontein, where she stroked a white lion cub and played with a two-year-old cheetah as it stretched out on the ground.

I think Christine looks much more natural than other wags:posing with other supporters and the photo of her taking their pic is really sweet.

She's a new mum who doesn't want to subject her young son to a long haul flight - nothing wrong with that. She's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.

Unlike St Dannii Minogue, who is planning on making a return to the X Factor when her baby will only be 2 months old - which means a long flight from Australia for the poor little mite, just so his or her career obsessed mother puts her needs first. I suppose the nanny will be on hand to do all the hard work though.

Your comment made me laugh hysterically Jules. Coleen Rooney wasn't worried about subjecting her young baby to a long haul flight when she flew to Barbados for a Hello photo shoot was she? Unlike Rooney Dannii Minogue doesn't have a millionaire husband so probably needs to work.
