Basic Information
- Founded in: 2000
- Located in: Saly, Senegal
Short Description:
In a nation where less than 30% of the population is
educated, Diambars has set out to educate youths, who in turn will
relay their knowledge to friends, family and communities. Its goal
is to combine sport and education (general, technical, and
professional) in a manner that will instil work ethics, discipline,
and confidence in the students. Each year the Diambars Academy
takes on 48 street children, providing them a home and education
for the next five years. For the organisation and its volunteers,
the joy of watching these children develop their skills on and off
the pitch is immeasurable. Furthermore, the streetfootballworld
network member (since 2003) is aiming to combine the passion for
football with the creation of educational tools for communities in
Senegal and across Africa.
Target Group:
- Street children between the ages of thirteen and eighteen
Thematic Field(s):
- Children's Rights & Education
Support in the Framework of the Football for Hope
Movement:
Football for Hope is supporting the development of a cultural
centre at the Diambars Institute that will develop, produce and
utilise multimedia pedagogical tools around the theme of football,
for various subjects. These tools will not only be available to the
boarders of the Institute, but also to children of neighbouring
schools and also on the Internet as a free resource primarily for
French-speaking African countries. Diambars is also actively
engaged in teacher training and involvement of local teachers is
foreseen. The multimedia documents/tools will be produced by the
pupils themselves under professional supervision, both in Senegal
but also during trips abroad that are an integral part of the
curriculum for them. The activities are part of a large-scale
project conducted by Diambars, FIFA and UNESCO called "Keep
the Ball Moving".
