The Montreal Canadiens traded up five spots in the first round of the NHL draft in order to select defenceman Jarred Tinordi.

Montreal traded the 27th and 57th picks (first and second round) to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for the 22nd pick and the 113th pick (first and fourth round).

Jarred Tinordi is the son of former NHL blueliner Mark Tinordi. The 18-year old was the captain of the U18 U.S. National Development team, and plans to play at the University of Notre Dame next season.

Phoenix used the 27th pick to select goalie Mark Visentin from the OHL's Niagara IceDogs.
