Simon Grayson and Glynn Snodin share a joke during training

With the World Cup now out of the way as far as England are concerned, all eyes are now back on club football and the start of a new season.

United manager Simon Grayson and his staff are at Thorp Arch preparing for the start of pre-season training on Thursday.

Four new faces will join the squad who return for the first of what is expected to be a demanding month on the training ground.

"We're looking forward the new season now," said the boss.

"The players are back in on Thursday ready for five-and-a-half weeks of hard work.

"There'll be plenty of ball work, and we've been doing plenty of preparation to get ready for what will be a long season.

"They will all be back and refreshed and ready for what we hope will be an exciting season.

"We have a good group of players who we believe casn take us forward and hopefully everything will go to plan."

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, defenders Paul Connolly and Fede Bessone, and striker Billy Paynter are the summer arrivals so far as Grayson looks to equip his squad in readiness for the Championship.

"We're still ongoing with a few things," added the boss. "We're speaking with players and agents. There's things going on all the time.

"I like to be quiet and spring a few surprises on people, but whether that's this week, next week, or after, we'll do things in our own time."
