James Harden implementing the swim move over Trey Johnson.

With the NBA Summer League(s) right around the corner, and Ridiculous Upside's draft coverage sufficiently wrapped up with this brilliant draft grade article from TAFKAMichaelBourn, I figured this morning would be the perfect time to begin our month(ish) long coverage of the NBA Summer League. (Vegas Summer League Roster can be found here)

First, though, I highly suggest you go here and drop a measly $10.95 (Early bird special!) to have access to all of the Summer League games - both live and on demand - starting with Evan Turner versus Derrick Favors on July 5th.  I'll be in Vegas for the entire Summer League and I'm still planning on spending that money just to be able to catch the Orlando games (and for the  archived footage).

I plan on updating this as often as possible, so please bookmark this instead of looking at it today and assuming it'll never be updated.

that Nets roster looks interesting. and i’m really looking forward to see how BJ Mullens performs for the Thunder. he was considered a big time talent a few years ago and i think the year he spent in the D-League should have favored him.

other players i will keep an eye on: Sherron Collins (future PG?), Daniel Orton, Gordon Hayward.

The Thunder will probably dominate this summer league

I hope the younger Pargo is better than his brother. The Bobcats need a solid reserve PG since DJ Augustin has elected to limit his skill set to shooting jumpers and running the break.

Serge Ibaka...

really? From Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom…too Garrett Siler and Alexis Ajinca! Does he have to give back his playoff bonus? Would be nice to see him dominate a little bit if he actually plays every game. This could be a 1-2 game cameo.

He's good

But it’s not like he couldn’t use the extra reps.

As...

a Thunder fan i think it’s a good thing. Westbrook did the same thing last year.

I just think they are pretty stacked

at the 4 / 5 positions for the summer league, so Ibaka may make a cameo and then give way to guys like Mullena, White and Williams who will take up most of the minutes. They are a young team so it makes sense that the guys would want to be around and support each other. Strong foundation there in OKC.

I'm interested to see what Vaden's game looks like these days.

Also, it appears that Fetch dodged a bullet since RussRob and Sherron Collins won’t be playing each other.

Who wins that battle if they would?

I should have fetch write about that. It would tear him in half.

I believe Mo Speights is playing, BTW.

I've updated Orlando's roster

which should be complete now except for the coaches. They basically stacked their team with D-Leaguers, which seems a bit odd given how indifferent the team has been towards the D-League in the past.

Maybe you should have a “Last updated” date spot next to the team names.

Nope

It’s way more fun to make people check constantly.
Actually, that’s a good idea – I’ll start doing that now.

That's pretty much the same thing I noticed

Literally half their roster is D-League. Most of the rest is foreign players, with only one college player other than the two draft picks. Randle’s drawing some interest over at OPP, since the Magic need a backup PG.

It should also be amusing if Ewing Sr. is the coach.

Honor is no substitute for victory.

If you'll remember

They loved the D-League last year as well.
It didn’t amount to anything, but their Summer League team is pro-D-League.

I don’t see much chance for any of the bigs other than Orton. Orlando’s already got three PFs and three Cs (assuming Orton’s on the team), so there’s not much room for another big unless Bass or Gortat are traded.

At SF, Ewing Jr doesn’t fit the Magic’s style, with his 23.5% from deep for Reno.

For SG, Taylor’s intriguing for his size and range. Crawford’s a smidge shorter and not quite as good a shooter, but Taylor didn’t do much in his two seasons in the NBA, which may be a bit of a caution flag.

At PG, I don’t see Stinson fitting into Orlando’s system, with his lack of range. Either Singletary or Randle can bomb from deep, which works better. Randle’s itty-bitty, though. Singletary’s not huge, but he at least is close to the 6’ mark. I’d like to see Randle make the Magic as a second or third string PG, but I’m not sure Otis and SVG will go with a 5’10" PG.

Honor is no substitute for victory.
