High on Life: Transcending Addiction
The Innovators Awards Program is collaborating with the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) to disseminate the virtual tour of High on Life: Transcending Addiction. An immensely popular and successful exhibition displayed at AVAM for an entire year (2002-03), High on Life presents the human side of drug addiction in America.
Taking the virtual tour of High on Life will provide insights about the addictive process, the tragedy of addiction, and the paths to recovery. The hope is that it will contribute to increased understanding of substance abuse and addiction; foster an increased willingness to prevent addiction; and help those who are addicted to enter treatment.
Included with the virtual tour, High on Life features brief biographies of the artists whose work is displayed on the CD. Also featured on the CD is an article by Jack E. Henningfield, PhD, one of the foremost scientists in the addiction field, who shares his thoughts in "A Scientist's Perspective on Addiction and Art."
