Forgive me for my haphazard typing, but with two Group A matches, resulting in Uruguay and Mexico advancing into the last 16 at the expense of hosts South Africa and the maligned and dishevelled France, Andy Murray's first-round encounter at Wimbledon AND England's first one-day cricket international against Australia in Southampton all going on simultaneously, the flesh is close to falling off my fingers as I bash all sorts of buttons to keep abreast of all developments. Needless to say I pretty much missed every single key development attempting to watch/listen/read a goal/set/wicket.

So au revoir to 1998 champions and 2006 runners-up France, a team whose internal issues make England's problems look like a nursery tantrum between two three-year-olds, and hamba kahle/vaarwel/rhonanai to entertaining hosts South Africa, whose pre-match singing routines have been one of my tournament highlights so far.

From the most maligned manager in South Africa to the most entertaining. Diego Maradona's Argentina can complete a perfect Group B performance when they take on Greece in Polokwane. The Abliceleste have six points following victories over Nigeria and South Korea and boast the tournament's top scorer in Gonzalo Higuain, who smashed a hat-trick in their previous match against Pak Ji-sung's team. Greece, if you can remember from that long ago, were on the end of a 4-0 Maradona-inspired drubbing by Argentina in 1994, scene of quite possibly the most famous post-goal celebration ever by wide-eyed and thoroughly frightening El Diego. Africa's hopes of last-16 representation outside of Ghana and Algeria rest on Nigeria, who face South Korea at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Argentina can afford to lose this match by a two-goal margin and still reach the last 16, but the complex permutations of Group B are enough to make a mathematician reach for the headache pills. Both South Korea and Greece are on three points, while Nigeria are bottom with a bit fat zero. But should Lars Lagerback's team beat South Korea and Greece lose to Argentina, then it comes down to goal difference and then number of goals scored in all games to determine the second-placed team. If it's still level after all of this, then it comes down to all sorts of different variables, including the final straw - quite literally - Fifa drawing lots.

Diego Maradona on Lionel Messi: "He will play. If you have a player as good as Leo, who is the best player in the world, I think it would be a sin not to give Messi to the people, to the team, and leave out the player who can certainly make the difference in a match."

News just coming in that Raymond Domenech refused to shake South Africa manager Carlos Alberto Parreira's hand because the Brazilian said France did not deserve to be at the World Cup. More drama than a Shakespearean thespians' convention. More on this soon.

Greece coach Otto Rehhagel makes two changes to his side as defender Vangelis Moras and striker Georgios Samaras return to replace Dimitris Salpingidis and Fanis Gekas. Looks like the 2004 European champions will play with one man up front, likely to be Samaras. Meanwhile, Argentina coach Diego Maradona makes seven changes to the starting line-up which beat South Korea 4-0. Captain Javier Mascherano and strikers Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain, the tournament's leading scorer, are left out, while midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron returns following a calf injury. Inter Milan's Champions League winning-striker Diego Milito starts alongside Atletico Madrid hot-shot Sergio "Kun" Aguero. Lionel Messi will captain the team in Mascherano's absence.

South Korea Huh Jung-moo make one change to the side that lost 4-0 to Argentina with right-back Cha Doo-ri replacing Oh Beom-seok. Meanwhile, Nigeria have named veteran striker Nwankwo Kanu in an attacking starting line-up with Lars Lagerback's side needing an emphatic victory with plenty of goals to stand any chance of progressing to the last 16. Lagerback recalls Yussuf Ayila for Lukman Haruna, defender Rabiu Afolabi replaces defender Taye Taiwo while Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi takes Peter Odemwingie's place in midfield. Midfielder Sani Keita is suspended following a red card in the 2-1 defeat by Greece.

The teams are out in Polokwane and soon after they follow suit in Durban, too. Diego Maradona has been saying for a long time he wants Lionel Messi to "be the leader of this team". Well tonight, two days before Messi's 23rd birthday, Maradona makes him Argentina's youngest World Cup captain. Anthem time.

Great early chance for South Korea, but Lee Chung-Yong can only prod wide from six yards after a cross from the right.

It looks a bit like Greece have parked the bus. They're gonna need a double decker for what they are trying to achieve this evening. It's all Argentina, knocking it around without a care in the world.

South Korea have started better in Durban and Ki Sung-Yueng lashes a right-foot shot a couple of yards over from just outside the Nigeria box. The Africans have not got going as of yet.

Concerns over the fitness of Nigeria's Danny Shittu after the big defender's left knee seemed to buckle as he tried to get up. He limps off for treatment, let's see whether he can continue.

Socratis Papastathopoulos is doing a man-marking job on Lionel Messi, which seems to mean he just fouls Messi as soon as he gets the ball.

There's a nasty coming together between Giorgios Samaras and Martin Demichelis inside the Argentina half, but despite protests from all sorts of players, referee Ravshan Irmatov of Uzbekistan does well to keep his cards in his pocket.

Just over 15 minutes in and Sergio Aguero shows a first glimpse of his ability, driving into space and hitting a left-foot shot that Alexandros Tzorvas saves. Moments later, Juan Veron catches a 30-yard screamer off the sweet spot and forces Tzorvas to tip over again.

Greece are going through in second place behind Argentina. Nigeria need Argentina to score and then they will be right in the mixer.

It's quick and lively in Durban and Chinedua Obasi hammers a shot just wide from about 15 yards out.

I don't think the bookies will be taking bets on Socratis Papastathopoulos picking up a yellow card - but after another foul on Lionel Messi, he still hasn't been cautioned.

Nigeria look quite comfortable at the moment and they are having slightly the better of it - Chinedu Obasi cuts in from the right and shoots tamely at the goalkeeper.

Closest Argentina have come to a goal so far as Sergio Aguero's goalbound right-foot volley from eight yards is superbly blocked by Loukas Vyntra.

So we're back to South Korea going through. A draw will suffice them as long as Greece do not beat Argentina. And to do that, they'd probably have to attack at least once...

I wonder, if it stays the same in Durban, how long Greece will leave it before they attempt to get into the Argentina half? They are doing a terrific job of breaking up Argentina's attacks, but they have offered nothing themselves.

Argentina almost break the deadlock twice at the end of the half as first Maxi Rodriguez and then Lionel Messi from range force good saves from Alexandros Tzorvas.

They've had a shot now - and Greece should lead. A slip in the Argentina defence lets in Giorgios Samaras and after one shot is blocked, he shoots wide with his left foot from an angle. Really should have hit the target.

Argentina will finish first and play Mexico in the last 16, while South Korea will come second and they will face Uruguay.

Diego Milito has hardly had a sniff for Argentina, but he is inches away from heading home Clemente Rodriguez's cross from the left wing. No, there's no sending off, I meant to use the sub graphic. Oops.

Half a sniff for Yakubu in Durban, but he is just not sharp enough to get to the ball and get a shot away.

Park Chu-Young has a chance to wrap it up for South Korea from Yeom Ki-Hun's right-wing cross, but his shot is saved by Vincent Enyeama.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos gets a handful of Diego Milito's shirt inside the Greece area, but the Inter Milan striker's penalty claims are waved away. This is the game that bored the World Cup.

It's not just the miss of this World Cup, it is the miss of ANY World Cup. Yussuf Ayila crosses from the Nigerian left and it beats Jung Sung-Ryong, falling perfectly into the path of Yakubu three yards out. In front of an open goal, he slots wide. It's incredible.

Argentina are stil plugging away, but they cannot breach this Greek backline. If Nigeria score again, a draw would be good enough for Greece. Would that make this one of the great rearguard performances of the World Cup?

South Korea have stepped it up a bit since Nigeria levelled and Cha Du-Ri's cross is turned behind by Danny Shittu - bit too close to his own goal for comfort there.

A little over 10 minutes remaining in both games and at the moment Argentina are going to finish top on maximum points, with South Korea in second.

Chinedu Obasi has had a cracking game for Nigeria and he slips a lovely little pass in for Oba Martins, but the ex-Inter and Newcastle man can only dink his shot over Jung Sung-Ryong and past the far post. Golden chance.

South Korea are killing time in Durban, but Nigeria need to get it up the other end and quickly. Time is running out for Lars Lagerback's side.

Nigeria go so close to a crucial goal when sub Victor Obinna hits a 20-yarder that creeps agonisingly past the post. Some people on the other side of the ground thought it was in.

Diego Maradona just looks so happy. It's incredible he's still alive in so many ways. What a story Argentina are becoming.

They are still playing in Durban, but there cannot be very long left.

So, Argentina finish top of Group B with a 100% record and they will play Mexico at Johannesburg's Soccer City on Sunday in the last 16. South Korea finish second on four points, and they will now meet Uruguay in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. Greece end with three points, Nigeria with one.
