UCSF and Hill Physicians UCSF Joins New Health Care Network
For HMO Members in San Francisco If you're a member of a health maintenance organization (HMO) and get your health care in San Francisco, a change has occurred that could affect how you get care at UCSF Medical Center. Effective Jan. 1, 2010, UCSF is no longer "in-network" for Brown & Toland Medical Group enrollees. Referrals from Brown & Toland primary care physicians will require prior authorization to access UCSF specialty care. Exceptions are pediatric specialty and obstetrical care, patients covered under state-defined continuity of care provisions, and patients who saw a UCSF specialist for care from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2009 and require continuing care in 2010. Those patients may see a UCSF specialist without prior authorization. To maintain your same level of access to UCSF specialists and services, choose a primary care doctor who's a member of Hill Physicians. Find out more about primary care at UCSF Medical Center and see a list of our primary care doctors who are accepting new patients. Talk to your HMO, your doctor and your employer's benefits representative to find out more. This affects you if you get your health care in San Francisco and you're a member of an HMO such as Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross (California Care), Blue Shield, CIGNA, Health Net and United/PacifiCare, including Medicare HMO plans. (Kaiser Permanente is not included.) It also may affect you if you're a member of a point of service (POS) plan. Members of preferred provider organizations (PPO) aren't affected. We know you have many choices when it comes to your health care and we hope you'll choose Hill Physicians and UCSF. Our goal is to make this change occur as smoothly as possible.
