Mytheon gets European publisher

The free-to-play multiplayer action-RPG Mytheon is getting close to its launch here in the US but soon folks across the ocean will be able to play the title as well. Today the game's publisher UTV True Games announced it has entered into an agreement with gamigo to bring Mytheon to Europe.

While there's no word yet on when the game will be launched in Europe, the new agreement will give gamigo the rights to publish and operate Mytheon in that part of the world. The game from developer Petroglyph is currently in beta testing in the US and will officially launch on July 13.

E3 2010: We cyberpunk out for Deus Ex: Human Revolution

10 years ago this week, the first Deus Ex game was released by publisher Eidos. The game was by far the best title made by Ion Storm, the rock star-like Texas-based game developer that started in Dallas and then expanded to Austin. It was in the latter office that Deus Ex, under the supervision of Warren Spector, was made along with the less acclaimed sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War.

A couple of years ago, before Eidos was bought by Square Enix, the publisher announced plans for a third game in the Deus Ex series to be developed by their new Montreal-based studio. While the third game would have no direct input from Spector (who now works for Disney Interactive Studios) fans of the original have been hopeful that this third entry (which got it's official name Deus Ex Human Revolution earlier this year) would recall the good points of the first game in the series. At E3 2010 we got to see a hands-off but live gameplay demo of the title (the two trailers that have been released were both CGI pre-rendered movies and don't show actual gameplay).

BioWare designer defends PC as their lead game platform

While BioWare may have made a number of console timed exclusive games in the last few years the developer has returned to making the PC the lead platform for their titles like Dragon Age Origins and of course the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic. In a new chat with Computer and Video Games BioWare designer and writing director Daniel Erickson defends the PC platform as best for games.

He states, "We all know the drawbacks of PC. We all scream at our boxes and try to make stuff work. But at the same time, the interface is made for games. The mouse/keyboard interface allows so much less restriction [than console]."

TERA trailer brings back the action to MMOs

This is the first we've heard of Korean MMO The Exiled Realm of Arborea (TERA) in a while, and it still looks like standard MMO fare. Skimpy armor, scantily-clad fantasy babes, and stereotypical environment and monster design are all present in this trailer. However, the claim that it is the first true action MMO (something Age of Conan attempted to be as well) makes us slightly interested. Another thing that also drew our interest is that it is not free-to-play, which places it in stiff competition with Lineage and Aion.

E3 2010: We explore and attack in Dungeon Siege 3

The fact that Dungeon Siege 3 was announced just before E3 2010 started last week wasn't that much of a shock. Rumors of the fantasy action-RPG's third installment had been rumbling for some time. What was surprising what that the game would be getting both a new publisher in Square Enix and an all new developer in Obsidian Entertainment. Yep, the team that created the franchise, Gas Powered Games, is not in charge of the third installment (although Gas Powered's head man Chris Taylor is a consultant for Dungeon Siege III). Indeed Square Enix has bought the franchise outright from Gas Powered Games.

So what does this mean? Well for one thing that means Dungeon Siege III will be released for consoles as well as the PC for the first time in the franchise. However that doesn't mean PC players should be worried. Indeed after seeing a hands-off but live gameplay demo of the title behind closed doors at E3 2010 last week we thing this new installment in the series has the potential to be the best in the series.

Another look at the original BioShock pitch

While developer Irrational Games didn't reveal their next game at E3 2010 last week the team behind the original BioShock is letting its fans take another look at the original pitch for their best known title. The developer's official web site posted the first half of their pitch last month and now they have revealed the second half of the original Bioshock presentation.

The second half takes a look at Irrational's original ideas for the game's interface, brief descriptions of the game's enemies, a back story that's far different than the one that actually showed up and ideas for multiplayer modes that were ultimately never used.

Deus Ex games on sale on Steam today for $2.49

This week marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Deus Ex. The cyberpunk first person action-RPG, under the supervision of "game god" Warren Spector at the now defunct Ion Storm, remains one of the best PC games ever made thanks to its deep gameplay and immersive (at the time) visuals.

If you have yet to purchase the game, Steam is giving folks a great opportunity to catch up. It's celebrating the 10th anniversary release by putting Deus Ex and its somewhat less acclaimed sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War, on sale for $2.49 each until 6 pm Eastern time today. It should also prep you for the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution which is due for release in 2011.

Final Fantasy XIV trailer gets down to monster-killing business

Final Fantasy XI has attracted its fair share of detractors. Decried for being to grind-heavy, not friendly enough to new players, and having ridiculous bosses (such as Absolute Virtue), it has a fairly negative reputation. In spite of this, or because of it, Square Enix is making a new MMO with Final Fantasy XIV. They seem to be trying new things, if this trailer is any indication, so we're looking forward to the upcoming release.

Disciples III trailer sparks a renaissance

The Disciples series has been missing in action for a while now. The last entry in the series was Rise of the Elves in 2003, with all releases after that being various "gold editions" and such. Thankfully, the series is returning with Disciples III this July, and it looks to be quite the grand return, if this trailer is any indication. It brings back memories of both Heroes of Might and Magic and Disciples II, and that makes us positively tingly with joy.

Rumor: Is Microsoft prepping for more PC game publishing news this year?

A few weeks ago, Microsoft announced their first major PC retail game release in three years when it revealed its plans to port the upcoming Xbox 360 RPG Fable III to the PC platform. But was this announcement a one-off deal or is something else in the works that singles a new direction for PC game publishing for Microsoft?

Kotaku reports that according to what they say is an internal Microsoft Q&A memo for Fable III for use by spokespersons, the official stance seems to be that the Fable III PC announcement is not a one-off special. The article quotes the Q&A as saying, "Windows 7 is a world-class gaming platform, and you can bet Microsoft has a vested interest in using it as a platform for amazing first party content. "Fable III" on Windows as well as Xbox 360 this holiday is a great first step, and we'll have more news for you later this summer." Could this mean we could see other Xbox 360 first party games like Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3 coming to the PC or perhaps a PC exclusive title announcement? It would see the answer is, "Stay tuned."
