dysplastic nevus a type of acquired, atypical melanocytic nevus with an irregular border, indistinct margin, and mixed coloring, characterized by dysplastic melanocytes in the epidermis. Particularly in patients with other family who have these lesions, they may be precursors of malignant melanoma. Called also atypical nevus.
