General Resources:


Finding a Job in New York State - This comprehensive overview for new job seekers is published by the NYS Dept. of Labor. Clicking the link will download this manual (a 28-page pdf).

 

Career One Stop - The U.S. Dept. of Labor's official online resource for job seekers. It includes many excellent tools for job searching, exploring careers, navigating education and training opportunities, and finding help during a job transition.

 

Learning Express - This specialized database offers practice licensing, certification, and aptitude tests for many careers, GED preparation and practice exams, computer skills courses, and a Job Search & Workplace Skills Learning Center. Log on from any computer with internet access.

 

Online Job Posting Search Tools - A list of resources for searching job postings online.

 

Career Planning Resources - A list of resources for identifying and pursuing a career.

 

Tools for Success During a Job Search - Tools for creating a resume and cover letter, tips for interviewing and networking for career success, and more.

 

Local Employment Resources - A list of local resources for finding a job, organized by county.

 

Assistance during a Job Transition - A list of resources for finding financial help during a job transition, including unemployment insurance, assistance programs, health insurance options, legal help, and more.

NYS Office For the Aging Employment Resources - Information about the Older American Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP or Title V), the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and how your local Office for the Aging can help you find employment.

AARP: Job Tips for 50+ Workers - Resources and tips for job seekers who are 50+ years old.

Experience Works - This nonprofit helps low-income seniors get the training they need to find good jobs in their communities.

National Older Worker Career Center - This nonprofit provides full-time and part-time opportunities to experienced workers through two programs: the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program and the Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

RetirementJobs.com - This job bank matches older jobseekers to "age-friendly" employers seeking experienced workers.
