FAQ: Listening online - Please see our audio help page for specific information regarding how to listen to the station online via your computer, iPhone or other mobile device, Internet radio; or if you have other audio issues while trying to listen to our online stream.
Why does a new window open when I click "listen live"? In order to allow our users to continue listening even after leaving our site, we open our player in a smaller browser window. This way, you can keep listening no matter what else you're doing online. And, the player window keeps you updated with current artist and title information at all times. If you leave our site and want to return, the links in the player window will bring you right back.
If a new window DOES NOT open when you attempt to listen, check to make sure you do not have any software installed on your computer that blocks pop-up advertising. That software can also prevent the player window from opening. Some personal firewall software also prevents the player window from opening. Any such software will need to be disabled temporarily when you first open the player, and then re-enabled after the player window opens.
The audio player says "buffering 00:00" but won't ever connect. What do I do? If your audio player sticks at "buffering 00:00" but won't connect, it can be a sign of a compatibility issue with your computer and the audio software. Please visit our audio help page for more information about system requirements and compatibility.
The audio player says "try again later". What does this mean? If the audio player says "try again later", it can mean that either the station is having problems with its Internet connection, or your computer may be having trouble connecting to our stream. Please see our audio help page for more information.
FAQ: Rating songs
How can I rate songs? You can rate songs on a 7 point scale. The opportunity to rate songs appears in a variety of locations on our music web sites: - In the expandable site player located near the top of the page
- On the Last Songs Played page
- On a specific song page
- The station may include song ratings as part of the homepage or music page content
Simply select the appropriate number of stars, reading left to right, and click.
When I listen to a song sample, then close the window, sometimes it makes my browser crash. Why? Our "hear it" and "rate it" features utilize embedded Windows Media Player to play song samples. Occasionally, closing the window containing the embedded player while the sample is still playing can cause your browser to crash if you (a) have antivirus software that employs real-time virus scanning and (b) you have Windows 2000. Temporarily disabling the real time virus scan while you listen should resolve the problem. If you encounter this issue on a system other than Windows 2000, or with different (or no) virus scan software, please let us know.
FAQ: Searching the site
What are the different ways I can search the site? You can search using either the name of the item you're looking for, or by using a keyword. The keyword search allows you to type in a word you think might be associated with the content you're looking for, and see if you get a result. You may need to try more than once using keyword search. You also may have heard a specific keyword used on the radio in association with the content you're looking for, and you should use that keyword when searching for it. At the top right of every page is a global search box. Enter your search term or terms and click the Search button to search the entire site. To search for an exact phrase, e.g., "United States", put the terms in quotation marks.
How can I filter my results to get more specific information? There are two ways to filter results: - Date/Relevance filtering. On the search results page, you can filter your results by Date (returns results in date sorted order, starting with most recent) or Relevance (returns results in descending order of relevance). By default, search results are returned in Relevance sorted order. To narrow your search to a particular date range, enter the From and To dates in mm/dd/yyyy format under Narrow by date, and click the Go! button. To return to the full set of search results after narrowing your search by date, click the Go! button again.
- Category filtering. The "Narrow by type" field on the right side of the results page shows how many results were returned belonging to a particular category. Click on a link (e.g., Events or News) to narrow your search results to that category. To return to the full set of search results after narrowing your search by category, click the "All" link under "Narrow by type".
Search results can fall into the following categories. Note not all categories will be available for every search term.
- Articles
- Audio
- Blogs
- Contests
- Events
- Images
- Movies
- Music
- News
- Slideshows

FAQ: Widgets
How do I install the widget onto my blog, social network, or webpage? Click the "get the code" link for the widget that you would like to install. If you are installing the widget on MySpace, then you'll want to click the "myspace code" section; otherwise click on the "embed code" section. Highlight the entire contents of the box and copy it to your clipboard by right-clicking and selecting "copy" from the menu. Paste the code into the source code for the page that you would like to display the widget on. For example, you could paste the code into the "About Me" section of your MySpace page, or into the HTML view of your favorite webpage software program. How do I delete the widget from my blog, social network, or webpage? Just delete the same code that you copied and inserted onto your own page. The widget doesn't work! Make sure that you are using the correct version of the widget code (the MySpace code for use on MySpace; the embed code for all other cases). You may also want to try re-inserting the widget by copying the code from our site again to ensure you have the latest version.
If the widget is working correctly on our widget page but not on yours, and you have copied the code correctly, then the issue may be with your website host. If the widgets aren't working on both our page as well as yours, then you will want to make sure that your browser supports JavaScript and Flash. |
